Nasal Congestion
Nasal Congestion
I have a BiPap Auto SV with humidifier and when I use the humidifier I end up taking the mask off during the night because of nasal congestion that blocks my breathing. I used the machine last night without the humidifier and was much more comfortable. Is it okay to not use the humidifier with this machine? Thanks
Re: Nasal Congestion
Or, turn the humidifier OFF and leave water in the chamber. That's known as "passover" humidification. Keep your distilled water in the refrigerator and put it in the chamber before bedtime. That will cool the air coming into your nasal passages and opens them up......helping you breathe better.
Also, do nasal cleansing before bedtime. You need your nasal passages clear and open when you sleep.

Re: Nasal Congestion
The humidifier is just a comfort addition to the cpap machines. When cpap were first used, there were no humidifiers.
Some people need them and some don't. Some like them and some don't.
I use mine in pass over mode (water in the chamber but no heat) almost all the time. Only on a very cold winter night do I add any heat and then just a setting of 1 or 2.
You need to see how things go without it though. For some people, depending upon the climate where you live among other things, your nose may get very dry without. Some people's noses get so dry that they bleed. If that happens you may need to use at least pass over mode or maybe set it at 1 or 2.
