help understanding leak data

Post by buntin » Sat Jul 24, 2010 8:56 am

Thankyou for your help. My AHI last night was 0.9 which I think is good, what I do not understand is the leak data which was median 0.0 95th percentile 13.2 max. 20.4 is that good or not good thankyou

Without the software it's like walking in the dark...

The leak rate is only meaningful when the mask (make & model) AND pressure are known. Each mask has a chart with it to show the leak for a given pressure. Some can vary with size.

A high leak rate can prevent the machine from detecting some or all events - depending when the leak and the events occurred. That is why the software charts are preferred to the LCD data displays.

When giving the AHI always give the pressure, mask (make & model), and leak rate for the data to have meaning. The machine make and model are also useful in understanding the data.

Because people often change mask, pressures, and even machine I never ass-u-me the equipment listed in the signature is the equipment used for the data displayed. It is much clearer to take the time to mention this equipment when looking for advice.

Also please note that even IF the signature equipment listing is correct today that does not mean that next year, or in ten years, when someone read this post but your signature equipment has been changed it will make sense to the new reader.

When you change your signature it changes on every post you ever made - past and present.

HTH to explain why taking the time to put your current equipment in the paragraph with the question is so much more useful.

also different machines report leak differently - Resmeds report excess over expected based on the mask in the menu and Respironics report actual air flow

the graph of the leak / flow is the BEST way to really know what could be going on -

I would think your leak rate figures are good, but we would need to see the graph to comment further.
The median value is the value where half the data is above this point, and half below. A median value of 0.0 means that for half the time your leak rate is 0.0 which is obviously excellent.
The 95% rate means that for 5% of the time your leak rate was 13.2 of greater. This is getting up a bit.
The maximum rate of 20.4 doesn't mean much but is OK
If possible publish you graphs for the night.
What are you other nights like?
