Teeth alignment shifting

Post by debo415 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:46 pm

Lately I have noticed that my bottom teeth are shifting. I wear a full face mask and the bottom of it hits at my gum line on my chin. When I wake up each morning, my teeth feel a bit looser for a few hours and now I notice that they are shifting....and that one tooth is almost being "squeezed out" of the line. I have an appointment with my dentist to see what I need to do..but was curious if this has even happened to anyone else.

Yep!
Happened to me with my upper teeth while wearing a nasal type mask. It was too heavy for my upper lip.
Switched to nasal pillows then went to an orthodontist to have my teeth realigned before seeing a dentist for a rigid mouth guard.

OSA isn't for the faint of heart, eh?

Would a one-size-bigger mask help? I wear a full face, and the lower rim hits just below the roots of my lower teeth, not at the gum line.

I have often wondered if it was a wide spread problem after long term use. So far i seem to be hanging in there without too much trouble.

I have been wondering if I need a larger mask...I start out with it closer to the root line..but it invariably moves higher during the night. I just hate to see all those years of orthodontics go down the tubes....LOL!

I actually switched to a full face mask because I got sick of using a chin strap. Over time the chin strap made my minor overbite worse and started to leave a noticeable dent on the back of my head, especially when I sometimes shaved my head in summer.

Mine hits at right about my gumline but I haven't noticed any problems with my teeth. My only problem with the full face mask is that I sometime break out pretty bad if I haven't cleaned it efficiently or recently.

I switched from the regular Comfort Gel nose mask to the Liberty Full Face mask and I hardly have any issues now. Most of my issues now are from being lazy about cleaning my humidifier.

I called my CPAP Mr. Sandman before I knew there was a CPAP named that.

I use nasal pillows and a PAPcap chinstrap. When my CPAP machine is on, I feel pressure in my teeth. Upon waking, they feel looser but don't move when prodded. It's a strange feeling. My teeth have moved a bit but overall have stabilized now.

Wow, this is kind of disturbing. I haven't noticed any teeth shifting, but I really would be upset, and at least now I have a warning. Hope you find a solution. Let us know if you get an answer as to how to prevent it.

My full face has caused my bottom teeth to crowd and have pushed my teeth back towards my tongue. That probably doesn't help my obstruction.

I have thought about this problem with my nasal mask. But I just found an article on customizing the gel cushion to spread out the pressure over more area. Basically heating it up in boiling water, cool slightly and put it on to customize it to your face.

Most of my top teeth come out at night so I don't have this problem.

I have noticed this, and am really annoyed. At one appointment, I grilled my sleep specialist about every possible negative side effect I could think of (bottom teeth shifting not being among them). She said, "There is no downside to CPAP therapy." When I noticed my teeth shifting and asked her about it, she said, "Yes, that can happen." I don't think I'll be telling my parents about this one, after their having paid for my braces as a kid.

Oh no. It sounds like my fears are realistic. I've only slept one night with a mask in my titration study but I straight away noticed the pressure on my teeth with the nasal mask. I had braves as a kid and don't want my teeth wrecked either. Mind you being fear with straight teeth isn't much use either I guess.
