Feel stupid asking this...

Post by eloise1253 » Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:58 am

I have been on CPAP a year now. No one has contacted me regarding reading my card/machine...do I need to see someone about this? I have the ResMed S8 AutoSet. I don't know how to read it. Should I call the sleep center, or the company rep who set me up with the machine? I am not having any problems, just wondering how to track progress & all. Many thanks!

Take my word for it - YOU are NOT the stupid one!! In my opinion - to h*ll w/them. If they aren't interested enough to contact YOU by now, who the h*ll needs them? If your insurance asks them for proof of compliance, T.S. for the DME provider.

After a year you've had your PAP long enough you don't need this bunch. You can get your supplies as needed from any other local DME provider your insurance is contracted with. Call and ask your insurance what local providers they are contracted with. Don't bother mentioning your current situation. Shop your other options and find yourself a good local DME provider. Then shop for a new sleep doctor while you are at it so that when and if you need a sleep doctor again you will have a better one to go to.

Meanwhile, check your PMs for information on how to access your own data.

Oooops. Please clarify one thing - is it the S8 AutoSet Vantage or the S8 AutoSet II that you have?

Also, try clicking the lightbulb at the top of your screen. Lots of good info to get you started there.

You should contact the store or distributor (the dealer) who issued you the machine. It is a good idea to get them to read the information stored on your machine to make sure there are no major issues while your sleeping.

If you do not know the name or location of the dealer, contact your sleep lab and they will tell you what dealer you went through.

WHY should Eloise contact such an inept, incompetent, disinterested DME provider and ASK them to do their job?? SHE has PAID them, whether thru insurance or out of pocket is immaterial. She can get better care and service elsewhere. One would assume since she has been on this AutoSet a year that she is doing well, she's not said otherwise. But even if she does need help she will be better off getting it elsewhere from a more concientious provider. Meanwhile, knowing how to access her data herself can also take care of minor problems.

She should get the data read either way there slinky. Why don't you try and help her solve her problem instead of whining about how badly you feel about these places.

She did. The slink contacted her via PM to help her solve her problem by empowering her to take control of her own therapy the way everyone should do.

The providers only provide a means to collect money NOT provide therapy.

Did you ever pursue the advice/suggestions put forth in this thread from last year? (reading the data from your machine)
It doesn't sound like it......otherwise you wouldn't be asking these things. The ResMed machines supposedly give pretty good summary statistics.

The reality is, it's YOUR therapy......not theirs......they got their money (your money) and now could care less.

Nooooooo........
Just asking the obvious question after doing some reading of this person's past posts.
After all, it's been almost a whole year ago since that thread I linked to.

THANK YOU, DreamStalker. Actually, I have NOT PM'd Eloise w/the needed info but ONLY BECAUSE I need a specific piece of info from her - WHICH AutoSet does she have? The S8 or the S8 II? Once I know that the info will be on its way to her via PM in a flash.

Eloise, I'd be interested to know how you've been feeling this past year, how you felt before you started cpap and what health improvements you've experienced, etc. You're one of the lucky ones not to have had any problems and if you do need help you're even luckier to have Wulfman and Slinky on the case.

Den
I applaud Den for pointing this out.

Too many times the same people return to the Forum asking the same questions despite all the good advice they were given the first time.

Personally, I make it a practice to ignore these people. I have better ways to spend my time.

Thanks for your reply, and everyone's chiming in. I have the ResMed S8 AutoSet II. I have checked the light button on top, but do not know how to interpret the data. That is what my question was--where do I go to learn how to interpret my data. I have read here of others who have reason to have their settings changed, and I wanted to learn how this is determined. I have no problem with my supplier, et al, but have found it easier to purchase needed replacement parts thru a vendor online. Was not expecting the supplier to contact me, was more curious about the sleep center & the physician who prescribed this therapy. Just wondered if, after a year, I should be seeing them for review is all. Other drs. usually send out an appointment notice.

A year ago, I did try things suggested, but was so new at it all (and, frankly, overwhelmed) so truly did not "get it".

Why the vitriol? In general. Was surprised at the tone of some responses!

Thanks again,
E
