Getting a newer, better machine

How would I get a new state of the art machine like the alarm clock looking one I've been seeing and hearing about?

I just was given a new machine by my insurance company about two years ago. It is a resmed escape cpap machine. It's not a bad device, but doesn't do all the things I see these new ones do.

Can I just simply ask my insurance for a new state of the art machine or how does that all work since it is not like my current machine is in bad shape or anything.

Most insurers will pay for a new machine every 5 years, but hey its never a bad idea to ask

Boston Guy, you can send a copy of your prescription to our host (CPAP.COM) and order any machine you want. It would probably be out-of-pocket for you, but might be worth it in the long run. Also, watch the cpapauction.com website--you can get some good bargains there. If your doctor wrote a prescription for a specific machine, your insurance might honor that. Typically, they only pay for new machines every 5 years, but it doesn't hurt to talk to them.

Cash, check, or credit card. Yes, that is the expensive way to do it, but isn't a few years of good sleep worth the price? In my case, I started with a used machine because I was low on funds, and then upgraded after I could afford it. I'd rather pay for my own than have some insurance company being involved in my private business.

That is what I heard from someone here. I am not usually in to gadgets but that sounds fun to me.

If I bought it out of pocket would I bring it to my normal cpap retailer place to get it adjusted to my settings?

Or do I have to do all that stuff myself once I buy it myself?

If you buy it from cpap.com you can figure out how to set it yourself. Seriously, it's not hard.

Thank you Dori C, I was not aware that there were experts that came along with this site. It's a wonderful thing I get all this help for free.

I have a resmed mask not sure what the model is. It is a full face mask (top of nose to chin).

I should clarify, I call the long-time users(and some not so long), our "experts" or "pros" because they have really educated themselves on the subject of OSA and teach us something every day. My husband and I would never have succeeded without their knowledge and patience. The medical community is not very helpful in most cases. Check cpap.com and see if you recognize your mask. People here who use the same one can give you tips on comfort, headgear and leak issues.

Heck it comes complete w/the 12v/24v switchable POWER ADAPTOR power adapter for portable use. Sounds ideal for truckies campers caravaners boaties or any other portable use that requires low power consumption . I have NO IDEA on data capabililty tho which is MY first priority.
