I came to the boards about 2 weeks ago, and have been innundated with friends and information too numerous to mention. I did indeed get my "Smart Buddy" and there are a LOT of them here. Most importantly, I was able to find the machine I need for $825.00 at a company called "Second Wind CPAP" (http://www.secondwindcpap.com). I spoke with the owner Mark at length today, who explained to me the process they go through to aquire, clean and re-sell these machines. he could NOT have been nicer. They charge NO tax or shipping and offer a 6 month money back guarantee. he even ran the serial number on the Bipap machine he was sending me, and it showed it is under warrantee for another year and a half. All machines come from Non-smoking homes, and he said if there is ANY problems they will send me a shipping label and I would return it with no charge to me. I dont know that I've ever felt more comfortable with a transaction. I also know I sound like a commercial for them but I'm just, like everyone else here, trying to spread the wealth and offer my experience. Thanks to everyone who has helped me!

PS) He said the danger with buying off Craigslist is that mold and other respritory bacteria can stay in the machines even if their is no host. People don't know how they are to be cleaned before they sell them. I'm not saying everybody, of course, but personally I feel better doing business with an established company than Uncle Joe in Orlando who 'just found this thing layin around' after Aunt Martha died!
NO Insurance?
Re: NO Insurance?
Did you try cpapauction.com they have new and used machines
Re: NO Insurance?
Beth, that's fantastic! You did purchase a BiPAP Auto SV machine, yes?
I'm not sure if all machines have a manufacturer's warranty that's transferable to a new owner, but it sounds like Second Wind CPAP will back you up for six months. Can they handle any warranty issues for you after that? If the machine still has a year and a half under the manufacturer's warranty, then it should have a lot of life left in it.
There will be an adjustment period, but once you get used to the mask and machine you should be sleeping much better and feeling better during the day too. Please let us know how your therapy goes!

Let us know how this works out for you. I had no insurance when I started, so I also bought a used machine. I had looked at this firm, but ended up getting a really good deal on a low hour machine from my local DME. The used machine worked really well for me. I put about 3,000 hours on it before it became my back-up and travel machine.
