New to group, problem with bipap

Post by peepers613 » Sun Jul 11, 2010 6:47 pm

Hi All I found this group on google and I have a question. Has anyone else had a problem with the Respironics BiPap Auto M Series humidifier? I am on my second machine in less than 2 years and the humidifier has stopped working again. I got this one in February 2009! I see on their website that this machine is discontinued. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Did you get your machine from an online seller or a local "brick & mortar" DME (Durable Medical Equipment) shop?
Have you contacted them?
It should have a two-year warranty.
Respironics had about 3 or 4 versions of the humidifier tank for those machines and I think a couple of versions of the humidifier unit itself.
Are there any blinking lights or other error messages?

There have been problems with the humidifier. I think the biggest prob is the the design allowed water to get back inside the machine when the user was careless and picked up or moved the machine with water still in the chamber. Or when it fell off the nite stand while sleeping.

I am told the new design has what is like a one-way valve in the PR S1.

There was a recall of some of these humidifiers within the last year. I received my machine October 2008. It was on the recall list and was replaced by Respironics no questions asked. If you are working with a DME, you should contact them for the list of affected machines.

OH, wow, you guys are great! Thanks so much for the quick responses. I got my machine through our local Visiting Nurses Association and I will call them first thing in the morning as this just started last night. The blue light on the humidifier control is blinking and it is not heating up. At least I know now there have been some problems with this machine and that there is a two year warranty. Forewarned is forearmed as they say. Thanks again!!

other have reported the blinking blue light humidifier problem - check the connections (tank seal too) - if that doesn't work search the forum - or look in the user's manual - I think people have found the reason there -- I don't have that machine myself

Jules,

Funny, this happened to me a few days ago. I use this same machine as my backup and travel machine. Just after turning the lights out, I noticed an odd flashing light in my hotel room. I looked over, and saw that my humidifier was blinking. Power off/power on didn't help, nor did pulling the power plug and plugging it back in. I then pulled out the water tank and pushed it back in. Problem solved. It worked flawlessly the rest of the night, and for the rest of my trip.
