using lubricant on cannula type system
I'm new to using a cpap (2nd night), and am using a cannula only system. I'm getting some irratation on the insides of my nostrils. My question is, can one safely use a small amount of lubricant that's safe for rubber/plastics (example KY jelly), to help alleviate this? I know one cannot use lotion or peterolium based products due to it will break down the material. Thanks!!
Re: using lubricant on cannula type system
K-Y should be OK. Many people use Ayr gel which is also water based. There is also Lansinoh (purified lanolin sold for nursing mothers) which is considerably thicker.

Thanks, I'm also thinking of making the straps a little more loose. I find when I do, the seal seems ok, just concerned what will happen if I turn on my side as that may break the seal.

You should adjust the mask when you are wide awake, not at bedtime.
Turn on the machine, lie down, and move about to see what happens.

I use Ayr Gel or Neosporin on mine. The pain relief Neosporen works well when my nares get sore. Be careful and don't use anything petroleum based!!

Jerry - you may want to re-read the ingredients list for Neosporin; I believe it is petroleum based.6PtStar wrote:I use Ayr Gel or Neosporin on mine. The pain relief Neosporen works well when my nares get sore. Be careful and don't use anything petroleum based!!

Don't get your KY's mixed up eh? They have that menthol zingy peppery crap now and we don't want your nose to grow, right?

I also use the Nasal Aire II. I use Lanisoh every night. Just a VERY tiny bit. It helps it seal, plus keeps it from sticking to my skin. It costs I think about $8 for a small tube, but it lasts forever. I've been using the same tube for almost a year, and still have quite a bit left. Good luck.
