How many here do not use a humidifier
How many here do not use a humidifier
I've had couple of people I know say they never use a humidifier with their cpap. Anyone here like that?
Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
i use mine without water, for a added muffler effect. i don't like anything warm, and keep my room at 65 degrees year round or colder. jim

I have gone a few nights without it with no problem, but haven't tried it during winter when the furnace is running and the air is dry. Even with it, I use it in passover.

I use the humidifier but without heat. I like COOL air blowing at me.
I have fibromyalgia in addition to OSA. I take Lunesta at bedtime.

Have never used one, now going on 1.75 years. Don't need it, don't want it.

Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
Humidifier use or lack of use depends a lot on the climate in which you live along with other factors including sleeping with your window open/closed.
Where I live my humidifier is on for about 2/3 of the year anywhere from 1-3 on a scale up to 5. In the summer when its between 18 & 25 degrees celcius then I use it in passover mode, above 25 degrees I can't even use it at all.

Used it in the beginning but now have it shut down to 'off' and use it only in 'passover' mode, works for me just fine w/o the heat.
Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
I own the H5i and the ClimateLine tubing, but I have never used either one since starting APAP about 6 weeks ago.

Never use it, but live close to the ocean.

Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
I can't stand to use it; I didn't have a humidifier for the first 12 years of using CPAP. I got a new machine with an integrated humidifier and I tried it for a while -- I couldn't stand it. After trying the humidifier, I found that a humidifier makes using CPAP about ten times more complicated. I also don't miss having to carry the extra equipment when I travel, and my batteries directly power my machine by itself just fine.

Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
I live in the Midwest if that makes any difference.
In the summer I leave the tank attached, but do not put water in it. I am like Goofproof it tends to muffle the noise, it, and I am too lazy to take it off.
In the winter when we have the furnace running and the house tends to get very dry I typically use it in pass over mode with only rarely turning it.

Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
I have one, I might have tried it once when I started over 2 years ago......can't actually remember if I did or not.....sometimes in the winter I have attached it empty if I am experiencing rainout and don't want that to flow into my machine......
I keep my place pretty cool in the winter, windows open and no a/c in the summer, and my heat is radiant heat from the ceiling, no vents or blowers, so I don't need to supplement humidity, it seems.
I use neti pot and that seems to help with nasal hydration, plus I am generally good about my water intake. Perhaps all this helps me not need the humidifier....

Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
Ive been on CPAP for about 3 months now, and have never used one. It was never suggested to me as an option by either my doctor, or the shop that I dealt with.
Not going to bother trying one either,I enjoy the cold dry air. Plus I've adjusted to CPAP particularly well. By about my third night I was getting full nights sleep without interruptions, and so it has continued since then.
I do wake with a very dry mouth, but that's no problem.

Re: How many here do not use a humidifier
I've used my humidifier routinely with low heat. But one night when on the road traveling, I didn't bother with it. I woke up with extremely painful nasal passages and sinuses. And I hadn't brought any saline nasal spray. I really suffered for a couple of hours before we found a store open that had nasal spray. What a relief! After using lots of spray for a couple of hours, I was fine. But I did learn a lesson. I won't try that again.
