I’m new to this forum and in need of a little information please.
I’m using a Resmed S8 Escape CPAP machine with heated humidifier.
In viewing the Clinician Menu I see that my “Calibration” is set to .98 while any information I can find in my research indicates it probably should be set to 1.00.
I asked my DME representative two questions:
1. What is the purpose of the “Calibration” submenu setting? and
2. Why is my machine not set to 1.00?
The rep said he didn’t know and then called Resmed. Resmed’s reply was to the effect that I wasn’t supposed to be looking at the Clinician Menu and that they were not sure what the purpose of the “Calibration” submenu was, but believed it had to do with the altitude setting. This doesn’t appear to me to be a valid response! Can someone please help clear this up?
I also have a second problem/question, namely, that I’ve recently restarted my lapsed CPAP treatment (I have been back on for about 5 weeks and determined) and I find each morning I awake with a headache which does go away about 10 minutes after removing the mask. I’m using a Resmed Soft Gel nasal mask and I’m careful to keep the head strap as loose as I can without causing a leak. I’ve tried different humidifier settings, but that doesn’t help. Does anyone have insight as to why this is happening? I know that If I sleep without the CPAP and mask I do not have a headache in the morning. What can I do about this? I don’t want to give up again.
My representative did test my machines pressure output and it was right on my prescribed setting of 9.

Re: Calibration of My CPAP
I do not have first hand Info about your machine. You can get a copy of the clincican manuel for your
machine and may have a better idea.
However the remstar machines have a menu item which lets you cal the electronic setting to that of
a real world manameter using water. C-pap. com sells fisher& packell manometer that uses water
of the standard. One of my children bought me one for my birthday one year and I do not use it often
but It can remove doubt about the presures. Check out getting a copy of the manuel, and then think if
its worth spending any money or using the dme to check out the machine.

Re: Calibration of My CPAP
I would guess that the calibration setting allows the manufacturer to fine tune the pressure on each machine. Electromechanical devices vary a bit in performance from one to the next, and this setting allows the manufacturer to adjust for that. Since you have confirmed that the pressure your machine is providing is correct, I would not concern myself at all about this setting.
