Favor - Borrow an S8 USB or card reader?

Post by RocketScientist » Tue Jun 29, 2010 10:00 pm

I recently got an S8 Autoset II from my DME. I would like to see how my pressures are doing during the night. I downloaded the ResScan 3.10 software, but I don't have a card reader or USB cable (yet). I've seen elsewhere on cpaptalk.com that I can get either the card reader or cable from one of several Austrailian sites, but they're not cheap. If there is someone in the vicinity of the west side of Cleveland who would be willing to let me borrow their card reader or USB cable, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to "try before I buy".

Another alternative might be if someone can recommend a place to get a comprehensive view of what the S8 Autoset II with hardware and software can show me in terms of time history data, etc.

Thanks!!!

P.S. A recommendation/preference concerning the card reader vs. the USB adapter would also be appreciated. I'm leaning toward the USB adapter since it's less expensive and I have a notebook PC that I can set next to the CPAP machine to download data.

Thanks again.

You can access the clinical menu which will provide you with daily/weekly/monthly/etc data until you can find a card reader for more detailed info. Press the right and down keys simultaneously to enter the menu.. In it you'll find efficiency and usage sub-menus. I've been recording my hours of use the previous night (in the usage menu) and my AHI/Leak rate from the efficiency menu in a spreadsheet so I can track my progress as best I can w/o a card reader.

I also found that the daily data in no longer accessible in the clinical menu after noon So you need to record last night's data before noon.

There are also settings and options sub-menus in the clinical mode that may be of interest.

There are many posts on this forum with ResScan data posted. Make sure that you are looking at data from an S8 as the S9 has more sophisticated reporting. And don't look at my posts because I have the add-on ResLink module that provides additional data.

As for USB cable vs. card reader, I seem to recall people having much more difficulty getting the USB cable to operate properly than the card reader. Others will correct me if that issue has been resolved.

I also happen to have a card reader that I'm not using (because I'm using the ResLink and its SmartMedia card instead.) But east of Philadelphia is not exactly near west Cleveland.

What extra info/features does that get you? Pricey?

The ResLink is no longer available from ResMed. When it was, it was expensive, intended for professional to buy and loan to patients for whom they wanted more data. I picked one up NIB on cpapauction.com for a reasonable price.

It adds flattening index, snore index, and minute ventilation data. In addition, data is recorded at more frequently.

Flattening index is a measure of obstruction. As one's airway closes the normal sine-wave breaths have flatter and flatter tops. For some bizarre reason flattening is measured on a scale of 0.0 to 0.3 where 0.3 is unobstructed and 0.0 is totally obstructed.

I wanted flattening and snore data because these measures are used by the AutoSet (along with apneas when the pressure is < 10) to make its adjustments.

Here's a link to a thread with a night's worth of my ResLink data:
