What do you do when Sick?

Post by TheTwinsMom1 » Tue Jun 22, 2010 10:05 am

I seem to have strep throat or a horrible cold. My nose is very stuffy and I tried to use my CPAP last night and all it did was make me feel like I was suffocating. I use a full face mask so I am not sure what to do while sick? I don't want to sleep with out the cpap but I don't want to feel as though I can't breathe all night either. Gah!

How much humidity are you using? (what is your HH set to?)
Some people use more humidity when sick and some use less (or no heat.....just passover). You'll need to decide this for yourself or experiment.

In any case, try to keep using it, if at all possible.

Right now my humidity is set to 5.5, and the temp set to 79. I am still in the process of finding the right combo for when I am not sick, lol.

I am not really sure but I will tell you after tonight! Woke up at 4:30am with the feeling like I had to sneeze but as soon as I took off my pap the feeling went away. As the day wears on, I feel a full blown cold coming on so tonight will be interesting. I plan on taking something to ease the congestion and than hope to sleep with the pap on!!!
Those dang rest stops....happens all the time. A few days after traveling and I get sick! ven after all the handwashing I do and avoid the door handles! Hope you feel better soon!!

I keep using CPAP, just like always.
I have never been unable to use CPAP, for which I am grateful. I have had a CPAP machine for five years and even when I am congested, the pressure seems to blow away the blockage. If it doesn't work right now, I try again in an hour, possibly using sinus irrigation in the meantime.

The number and severity of colds has gone way down as my children get older - they are college age now.

Recipe for sinus irrigation:
1 cup warm water (body temp, or as desired)
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon plain salt (NOT iodized salt)
pinch of baking soda

Use this in a netipot, or a neti-bottle, or a sports water bottle (has a squirt nozzle); multiply the recipe as desired.
