What have people in OZ paid for S9

Post by Golden-Alpine » Fri Jun 18, 2010 6:25 am

I am interested in hearing what price people paid/quoted for ResMed S9 Elite and Autoset.

I am returning my hire autoset next week and have to decide which way to go.

I paid approx $2040 for the AutoSet + H5i. Plus I got $180 off it for "trial rebate". I don't live in any capital city by any means either. CPAPAustralia has them for $1995 and the Elite for $1499.

You can get a S9 Autoset on the internet for about $840 and the humidifier for about $300 more. Depending on your insurance situation the insurnace company can pay a couple hundred dollars less.

Do an internet search you will not have trouble finding prices. ResMed has a minimum price that internet resellers can sell the product so if you find an internet price close to what I listed above do not expect to find it significantly lower on the internet.

Very simple solution. Buy from CPAPauction or Craiglist!
You can get the whole setup for about $850!
Add the shipment to Oz - the whole config will cost you less than $900

why buy local?

You will pay customs duty (5%) and possibly GST (10% - unless you can convince customs otherwise - there is no GST applicable to CPAP machines but customs can be morons) if you exceed $1000AUD value importing anything into Australia.

If you bought an AutoSet + H5i from cpap.com, it will cost about ~$1500 AUD. It depends if you have health insurance too because most (if not all) will only let you claim your extras cover for Australian bought machines.

Plus I don't have a prescription (because you don't in fact need one in Australia) so there goes the possibility of any internet ordering. If I don't even need a prescription, why does CPAP.com require them? I mean, my sleep report recommends that I get on CPAP by the sleep physician.

In Canada, I do not need a prescription to buy CPAP. However for buying on-line, I just asked my GP for a prescription and upload this to CPAPauction.com. Simple and save you more than $1,000. Why not?

Golden-Alpine, do you have private health insurance and will they cover a CPAP machine?

cpapernewbie, the issue is really that I could go spend $1000-1500 on a machine from the US but if I found one in Australia, paid $1850 and send an extras claim to my private health insurance I will only be paying $460.
The US seems to have a very painful system with health insurance and being forced to a particular DME.

I paid about $1799 for an S9 Autoset from a Sydney retailer who advetises on the web, a little over two months back.

A $500 private health insurance rebate brought the out of pocket amount down to a level where it wasn't worth it for me to take the various risks involved with international shipping etc.

Also, the Australian supplied S9s come with a Climateline heated hose and a openable humdifier tank, both of which are NOT included in in the US S9 models and are therefore an extra cost for US buyers.

Cheers,

Bill

It appears that after adding the hose and humidifier the cost at cpap.com would be $1,123.00 plus S&H. How do they do that? Really??

resmed CPAPs were very cheap when they were breaking into the US market, I have a cheap basic one and its had 3 problems so I wonder about their reliability
