Sleep Apnea Pillows

Has anyone tried those funny shaped sleep apnea pillows? If you have how was it? Is it worth the added expense?

I don't have the funny shaped one, but I have the buckwheat hull pillow, it's named in my signature. I love it so far. I can move the hulls around to create any shape I need to make room for my full face mask.

I just use a down-feather pillow and can easily shape it to fit nicely and avoid the mask.

My pillow is in my profile (below). I've used my Chiroflow/Mediflow pillow long before I started this therapy and it's worked very well for this purpose, too.

"Standard" bed pillows can push the mask out of alignment when the user's head sinks into it. That will definitely increase leakage.

After trying some homemade cpap pillows and the papillow, I finally purchased the Regenesis pillow a couple of months ago. For me, it's doing very well. It is adjustable by how many buckwheat hulls you use, so I've been adjusting a bit now and then to determine what I like best. And my numbers have been very good with this pillow.

Yes, I have a couple of those funny-shaped CPAP pillows as well as the Regenisus (sp?) buckwheat hull pillow. Although I sometimes rotate, I find I use the funny-shaped ones much more often than the buckwheat hull pillow (to the point where I travel with one of them when I go on business trips). They are a big improvement over a normal pillow if you are a side or stomach sleeper.

I have this pillow from http://www.contourliving.com,bought it for $80 Can. at my sister's sleep center while visiting.

Rests on top of your favorite pillow and works especially well with full face masks.

Homemade, like Carbonman has already detailed on here is another option, just search "pillow slasher" and hang on...

I also have that pillow also. I bought mine from Jim's Pharmacy here in town. They had it on sale and I got it about $5.00 cheaper than the original price. I sleep on it all the time now and I made a pillow pal and I put that on top of he cpap pillow as the cpap pillow will flatten after a time. The pillow pal is great as I can put my earphones on it and lay on them and then I can hear the tv. Pretty comfy too. I had one of them buck wheat or hulls or what ever you call it when they first came out years ago and I did not like it. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

I have the Contour CPAP pillow pictured above. I'm a side sleeper and it tends to make my temples sore because it's so hard. And now that I've switched from ff to ff with nasal pillows, when I move around in my sleep it tends to push the mask which causes the nasal pillows to pop out...all night long. I also have the buckwheat neck pillow which helps sometimes when I feel congested and need softer, but firm support for my head.

But my favorite choice is my feather pillow which I can shape around my head and face. It's soft and doesn't make my face feel bruised by morning, and it doesn't move my mask. I use a zippered pillow cover under my regular pillow case to avoid problems with feather allergies.
