Health problems and sleeping too heavily?

Post by wireless » Thu Jun 17, 2010 2:07 am

Normally people assume that's it's so good that I sleep heavily, but I feel I am sleeping too heavily and it's due to health problems. And it probably helps increase certain problems too.

I was wondering what are reasons I might sleep too heavily? And what problems it might cause? For me, it is NOT from exhaustion, narcolepsy, lack of sleep, etc. I'm just talking about how most of the time I'll sleep through things and not get signals from my body to wake... For example, say the covers fell off and I am shivering, I won't even "notice" enough to rouse and do something to get warmer. Or if I need to pee, it'll affect my quality of sleep, by rousing me to a certain level, I suppose, but not enough that I am "conscious" and can do something about it. Or if it's very hot in the room, I'll just stay sleeping uncomfortably and wake up once it's been a whole night's worth, but it probably affected the quality of my sleep. Or nightmares or being hungry or sleeping with tingling poor circulation body parts.

And is it a myth that apnea makes you sleep "lighter" or is that true, since most people don't get into the deeper levels of sleep as often? (During my sleep studies, I had a reduced REM %.)

I have not been able to adjust to the CPAP so yes I am having untreated long-term apnea or similar. (I am not sure I have actual apnea per se, it's more like upper airway stuff that leads to a drop in o2 sat.)
Need to restart BiPAP therapy, never got adjusted enough. ResMed VPAP Auto with H3i humidifier, Mirage Quattro Full Face mask, ResScan 3.5. On paper, my Dx is OSAS, but it's probably UARS. Reduced amount of REM. Titrated at very low I/E pressures.

Your signature is unclear about what you are actually doing. Are you using CPAP?

I have a vision that we will figure out an easy way to ensure that children develop wide, deep, healthy and attractive jaws and then obstructive sleep apnea becomes an obscure bit of history.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ycw4uaX ... re=related
