Preheating... Does it still exist?

Post by IsrvChrist » Wed Jun 16, 2010 8:59 am

When I called my DME they told me that they no longer have the function of preheating on humidifiers. I told them I knew for a fact that the S9 did, and they told me it was a fire danger and no longer offered it.

I know they are blowing smoke up my rear, but I thought I would through the question out.

The S9 I've had for just a week and a half has warmup.

Maybe you should start recording these calls and report them to the state board.

BlackSpinner,
Nah. That's illegal in most states. However, as a patient and consumer, you have the right to ask for a copy or the URL of the Public Safety Notice associated with those remarks.

All you have to do is say you are recording it. Tell them it is because you have short term memory loss due to sleep apnea.

So did they use the S9 preheating function to blow that smoke?

I would just bend over and blow it back in their face.

Just to be on the safe side, I'll say the obvious:
The dial on the humidifier has to be above 0 for the preheating to start.

I suggest that for the sake of trying, you put the dial on maximum, press the right button under Warmup, and wait for about 15 minutes. Pre-heating will stop after 20 mins.

On my S9 Elite, when I hold the button down for the three seconds for warmup, it gives me a few seconds and starts pumping air. Shouldn't it heat for a bit first?

When I run the warmup it will blow a gentle stream of air while preheating but it is not my full pressure. It's the same gentle stream that blows when you shut the machine off in the morning. I think the preheat will run for up to 15 minutes if I remember correctly. The question is how well can you trust the memory of a person with OSA.

I suggest you call your insurance and ask what other DMEs are in your area that you can use and how to cancel your rental with the current DME. Then call around to other DME's and ask if the have the S9 in stock (or the S8 elite if you want). Then take the escape back to this DME and get a drop off receipt and tell them you no longer want their services.

You could also try calling your current DME and flat out tell them that you are not happy with what they gave you and if they are not willing to exchange it for an S9 then you will be happy to return it and take your business elsewhere. If you have any business sense at all they will want to keep you happy for you will come back for many years to come for masks and other supplies.

Get what you know you deserve and if not the put on your walking shoes and vote with your wallet.

If all else fails ask your insurance if you can buy online and then get reimbursed.

Ya know, Oscar, if my post wasn't already there, I'd have forgotten what I asked.

True story. When I call people, if I have to leave a message, I just cannot say, name, time, callback number. I have to actually leave a message. If the person on the other end doesn't listen to the message (or just caller ID's me), I'm hosed. I have no recall of what I wanted.

I feel for you because I have the same problem most of the time.

Something that really gets me sometimes is that if the phone rings for too long I get distracted and forget who I was even calling.
