Inhalation noise
Inhalation noise
I recently got a new CPAP machine - Respironics C-Flex+ and am using a "Breeze" face mask. I've been on CPAP for many years, but now am experiencing a loud hum or drone when I inhale. I've tried my old headgear, my old machine, new hose, adjusting the pressure and humidifier, etc. and just no difference. Am now wearing earplugs but the noise is still waking me up. This is not a problem I've encountered to this degree in my whole time on CPAP. Does anyone else have this problem and can anyone offer a solution?
Re: Inhalation noise
Reading the hype on the Resmed S9's vs. PR S1's, Resmed claims to have done things to reduce not just the machine noise but also the "conducted" noise carried by the hose and mask. People who have S9's do comment that they are quieter.
I have a PR S1, and that inhalation sound is quite noisy sometimes--usually at night when I am first trying to sleep. In the morning, I cannot hear it, unless the short tube on my Swift LT is against the pillow--very odd.
I don't think earplugs help that much. The sound is actually conducted inside my head--earplugs actually make it LOUDER.
Try some white noise (fan, sound machine, MP3 player) to mask it, and make sure the tubing on your Breeze is not against your pillow--which seems to conduct the sound as well.

Re: Inhalation noise
I hear that hum too and it drives me crazy sometimes! It is more noticable on my side too. I run a fan which helps a little.
Re: Inhalation noise
Thanks for the advice. Last night I switched from nasal pillows to my old nose piece. It's not an ideal solution because it doesn't fit very well, and the noise was STILL there to some degree but I could sleep. I don't think it's a machine generated noise, because I tried my old machine and still had the problem...Can't for the life of me figure out WHY this is happening within the period after my getting a new machine because I've switched around all the factors. And, you're right. Ear plugs do not help, as the noise is inside my head and they do make it worse.
Re: Inhalation noise
How long have you been using the Breeze mask? I was reading some comments about the Breeze on cpap.com earlier today and MANY said that the Breeze made a noise while inhaling.
I just wondered if it might be the mask.
