Unless Fisher & Paykel has come out w/a newer one you can't beat the F&P HC 150 free standing heated humidifier. You can often find them, or even an F&P HC 100 (I have one given to me by a very good friend), on e-Bay.

I second the Fisher & Paykel HC 150. I have used one since my early model "M" Series humidifier leaked so bad it destroyed the top of my chest and shorted out the heating element in th humidifier. It has a continious setting rather than clicks so you can fine tune the heat. It also has Ambient Tracking which help make automatic corrections for changes in temperture and humidity. It is not perfect in this but it does help. The only thing some people dislike is that it does take up a bit more room but I really like the little tray it comes with that lets me velcro the cpap mto it so it stays all together. The only thing I am still trying to invent is for the cpap to cut it off when I cut off the cpap. I did leave it on a couple of times, so it is now on a timer so that if I forget it only stays on an extra 30 minutes.

Thank you for the replies. I was already looking at those. I saw one on ebay but they took it off. I guess you have to have a prescription for those too now. I don't have a prescription. The sleep center sent the information straight to the DME. I sent my machine back to the DME. They did give me my settings but they won't give me my prescription. They say I have to get it from my sleep doctor and I never saw one. I changed doctors from the one that sent me to have the sleep study. She wasn't a sleep doctor. Hopefully someone will have one that they will sell.

Filter pad should be replaced at least once every season. Regular cleaning is necessary to ensure proper and efficient operation. This humidifier never needs to be refilled and only needs to be cleaned once a year in most homes. My wife and I recently retired in Georgia and found the unit to be effective in maintaining an acceptable comfort level in a 3000sf home.

You shouldn't need a prescription to purchase a humidifier.......just for the machine and mask.

Dennis, the new FDA requirements now require a perscription for the machine, humidifier and mask. cpap.com and cpapauction both now require a perscription for all three items. I think it is stupid but what do you expect.

Would anyone just decide to buy a machine and go through all the crap if they didn't need therapy? If someone did that would it cause anyone harm? I really don't understand why it is like a controlled drug. If they were, that would certainly drive up the price of used machines. I just don't get this at all.

You don't "get it" because you aren't a politician on the take, nor an FDA official on the take, nor important enough for the medical device industry to bother bribing you and because you have too much common sense and too much at stake to be conned by the same.

I used a personal vaporizer to quit smoking. It was very easy to stop after 40 years with that simple device but now the FDA wants to make it a medical device because people are using it to stop smoking. In that case the government is losing tax dollars from everyone that stops smoking. I do understand why they really don't want people to stop smoking. I guess they just want to control everything.
