Hi, I need to be able to read the data from my 'new-to-me' s8 Autoset II. I'm not sure whether to get the USB adaptor or smart card reader. I don't see a picture of the end of the USB adaptor and haven't received a response to my question about it from the seller, so I'm not sure if I could use the adaptor as-is or would need to connect it to another cable.
I'm anxious to see the data, although I'm not a techie and am intimidated by the process. My AHI is around 5 and my pulse is in the 50's and 60's, so I'm concerned about the possible relationship between the two. I'm also getting a pulse oximeter so, as soon as I figure everything out (with some help from you I hope!), I should have a clearer picture.
Thanks very much!
Mary

Re: Should I get Resmed Autoset II USB Adaptor or Card Reader
Hi, Mary, and welcome! The USB Adapter for the ResMed S8 machines comes with a USB cable (6-foot, as I recall). One end of the cable has a small plug that fits into the USB adapter on the CPAP machine, and the other end is a standard USB plug that goes into your computer. I hope that answers your question. If not, let us know.
Re: Should I get Resmed Autoset II USB Adaptor or Card Reader
Both the card reader and USB adapter provide the same end result, which is to transfer data from machine to computer.
The card reader does it by:
1. insert ResScan card into machine to download data
2. Insert ResScan card into card reader and connect to computer
3. Download data from ResScan card
The USB adapter does it by:
1. Connect USB adapter to machine (one end) and computer (other end)
2. Then download from machine directly to computer.
Pros and Cons
1. You need the ResScan card for the card reader to work; if the card fails, you need a new card.
2. The adapter requires both machine and computer to be connected, which usually means moving machine near computer (assuming it's a desktop and not laptop here).
I got the card reader because for some reason the usb adapter didn't work, was defective and exchanged for card reader. But my original choice was the usb adapter and if I had to do again, would buy the adapter. At the time of purchase, both priced the same.

Thanks for the helpful answers. Sounds like I should go with the adaptor.

If you need to software, holler and a pm will be sent to you!mimi7grands wrote:Thanks for the helpful answers. Sounds like I should go with the adaptor.
Also, do a search for the pulse oximeters - the software for the popular (very reasonably priced) china made contour CMS models can be difficult to figure out how to use. If you search the CMS 60D, there was some very good explanations in the threads. Any of the CMS models use the same software so you're not obligated to buy the 60D; others prefer the 50XX series.

Re: Should I get Resmed Autoset II USB Adaptor or Card Reader
I just purchased a S8 autoset II Resmed machine. Last night was my first night. I found the same thing as you. I wonder if you were able to get a cable. I purchased mine from CPAPauction and the only cable that came was the power cable. I would appreciate any help. I also struggled a bit in setting my machine. Any advice for a newbie. Able to wear all night, had some popping for a couple of hours until I figured out the hose had water in it (Duhhh). Otherwise feel great today. My AHI only 7 but my oxygen saturation would dip to 78%. Yikes
Thanks in advance for your assistance,

I seem to recall from reading posts that the USB adapters are more difficult to get working than the card readers. As another member pointed out, there are some ResMed brand readers on eBay at the moment.
