Pulse Oximeters

Post by kevincoop » Wed Jun 02, 2010 10:50 am

Hi,
I have posted and talked to several people on here about recording pulse oximeters. I have been in DME for over 10 years and was surprised at how much the price has went down on these in the last few years. I have had a website up for a while on CPAP odor removal that had some pulse oximeters for sale and it has done much better than I expected. I just wanted to let everyone know that I have taken the http://www.cpapodorremoval.com site down to focus just on pulse oximeters. I am ordering in bulk and taking less profit so I can sell cheaper than all the other guys that are out there right now. I am trying to get a few other models (SPO and Nonin) on my site and waiting for my first bulk order to come in. The site is scheduled to go live June 20th with all products in stock. I would love for some CPAPtalk users to check it out and give me some feedback on content and pricing etc. Even if you don't order anything, I would love any ideas on how to make this site better and hopefully continue to drop the prices so the products are affordable to everyone. The site is http://www.pulseoxstore.com.
Thanks,
Kevin Cooper

By the way, does anyone else have experience with Apollo or Philips Respironics light therapy? I am selling them simply because I won one at a trade show a few years back and have not went more than a few days without using it. I use it almost every morning and take it on trips with me to get used to the time differences. I was a little skeptical that it would actually work, but after using it I would fight someone to keep it. I would like to know if anyone else has gotten a benefit from this.

Hi Kevin

Looking to get an oximeter soon (after Consult with Sleep Dr in 2 weeks)...
Do you also ship USPS to Canada ??
I'm assuming that Oximeters as Medical Supplies are Duty Exempt... correct ??

BTW I looked at your new site and it looks good.

Thanks Nord. No problem on shipping to Canada. It does look like these are duty free. I can quote you a price to get it up there when you are ready to order. Maybe by the time you are ready for one I will have shipping to Canada set up on the site.
Thanks for looking at the site. This is the first one I have done completely by myself. I just don't want to pay someone else to design a website and make my overhead more. This way I can price my products a little less. If this site does well, I will order greater quantities and be able to reduce the prices even more.

Kevin,

Your website looks very nice, functional and informational, good job.

I have a follow up sleep doctor appointment in July and at my last appointment he mentioned having the DME set me up with a oximeter for some testing at that time. I have considered getting my own so if I can swing the expense by that time it would be interesting to have my own to compare the readings to the one they supply me with.

Good luck with the new website.

Thank you Terry. If there is anyone who has used CMS oximeters who has had any problems, I would like to know. I have already had a few problems with the new version of the downloadable software, but I added a link for the older version and that seemed to correct the problem.
I appreciate any and all feedback, positive or negative. If there is anything that anyone thinks needs to be changed please let me know so I can fix it.
Thanks
Kevin

The site looks very good and easy to navigate and get the needed information.

I wanted to say, as far as shipping to Canada goes- spend your time getting it set up for shipment by THE POSTAL SERVICE. That was mentioned by another Canadian forum member. I just wanted to re-emphasis that though. While medical equipment is duty and customs free, when shipped for US to Canada, if it sent via a Courier, Brokerage Fees will be incured by the person receiving it. Shipping via the Post Office will avoid this and Canadian customers will be more likely to buy from your site, if shipping to Canada is available.

Most folks tout http://www.semedicalsupply.com as excellent supplier - suggest you compare your site to theirs, including pricing to determine how competitive you really are.

FWIW, Contour Medical China will pretty much sell to anyone ordering bulk.

And just for the record, I have no relationship to either of the above two companies

Thanks for the advice on shipping to Canada Hawthorne. I am new at this so all of your advice will be utilized as best I can. I am working hard to get everything set up so it will be as user friendly as possible.
dtsm. Yes, I have read several good reviews and feedback about http://www.semedicalsupply.com. They have a good reputation and hopefully I will be able to keep my customers as happy. I am hoping to get a few product lines and brands that are different from theirs to add to the site so mine can stand out. I am taking less profit than most providers to try to get this off the ground. Hopefully that will pay off in the end.
Thanks for the feedback so far and I will work on the shipping to Canada.

Hi Kevin

I have been thinking at the possibility to buy an oximeter out of curiosity of what my oxigen level is while sleeping. As Hawthorne told you if you ship to Canadians it is necessary do it by USPS other way it becomes super expensive because of the brokerage.

All the best in your new business!

Hi to rosacer, Hawthorne, and Nord. I have been working on getting my Paypal acct to calculate shipping to Canada. I was very surprised about how cheap first class shipping to Canada is. It doesnt specify a time limit, but it is cheap. Priority mail is about 20.00 at the cheapest. All I have to do is get some priority mail boxes and pack them up and get the weights so I can calculate shipping rates. I will have that done as soon as my order gets here. I still have several of the CMS-50D Plus oximeters. I would venture to guess that they will be less than a pound with packaging material and a priority mail box. I will have that updated on my site this week if anyone is interested in that model. As for the rest of them, I have been haggling with pricing and am sending a payment tomorrow so I should have the site fully stocked in a few weeks. I changed the date from the 20th to July 1st just in case it takes a little longer to ship.
I appreciate your interest in the site and appreciate all the feedback. If anyone else wants to look and give me some ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Bash it all you want. If I don't get negative feedback, I won't know what to change.
Thanks again everyone,
Kevin Cooper

Well, $20.00 is a little high I would say. It is not bad but I have had items shipped from US online companies for a few dollars less than that to Canada. Some do charge that much and some more.

A lot of times, the sellers on cpapauction.com have sent items for a lot less that that. I have had items, like masks, which don't weigh a lot, shipped for anywhere for $6.00 to $18.00. In my opinion, I think it can be shipped for less than $20.00 for a light weight item.

I think First Class may be cheaper but I am not certain about that. I shipped a mask to a fellow cpaptalk member, in the US a couple of months ago for about $7.00. That is with no tracking available of course at that price but people may like a cheaper option and be willing to forego tracking.

Just offering feedback.

You are right about first class being much cheaper. It is between 6 and 10 dollars. I am going to package up my oximeters and see if they will go cheaper but the usps shows that 20.00 is the cheapest rate for lowest weight package. If I find a cheaper rate I will offer it.
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, thanks for posting this. I need to get a recording oxymeter for my wife because she has COPD, OSA and compliance issues (claustrophobia and panic attacks). She also has small fingers that are often sore from Arthritis.

I almost ordered a CMS-50D Plus several times. What held me back were concerns about the size of the unit, comfort on her finger and quality. If you have experience with the SPO and Nonin units you will be selling, I would like to talk to you about the differences. Can you send me a PM with your phone number and a good time to call. Thanks, Rick

Hey Kevin. That's a wonderful site you have. I had a good time looking around on it. I was wondering if I would need a script from the Dr to get one of those oximeters???? I'm also interested in the light theraphy thing. So maybe next payday I might order the light thing. Will wait on the oximeter thing until I hear from you on my question about a script. I wish you good luck wiht this site and may you get lots of orders. Huggies, Fay
