I just got my S9 and Quattro full face mask yesterday and used it for the 1st time last night. First of all the S9 is sooo quiet. The Quattro mask is nice but i found it to be to tight on my forehead. I wound up talking the mask off half way through the night. I guess there is a learning curve. My pressure is set to 8 and a some point during the night i found it hard to exhale against the force of the pressure. ANY INFO or TIPS would be greatly apperciated.

Congrats on your first night! There definitely is a learning curve, but you did well.

There is a dial on the front of your Quattro mask attached to the forehead piece. BEFORE you put it on, check the number on the dial. That's where your clinician set it--you can go back to that setting if you need to. Once the mask is on and you are laying down with the machine on (IMPORTANT: you should only adjust the mask in your normal sleeping position and with the machine on because that inflates the cushion that makes the seal against your face), you can turn the dial to loosen the pressure against your forehead just a little--not so much that it leaks. See if that helps.

As far as the exhalation, there should be an adjustment for EPR (Exhalation Pressure Relief) on your machine. I don't know your machine, so others will have to chime in on how to adjust it, but there is a way to lower the exhalation pressure so you don't have to work so hard breathing out.

Hi Shap...I too started on the S9 and Quattro Full Face mask last night.

As a point of comparison, I slept for about 2 hours and then was awake for well over an hour. Once I was able to get back to sleep, I slept for about 3 hours. I took the mask off and then slept for another 30 minutes mask free before getting up and ready for work today. I agree that the machine is very quiet. I'll work a bit more at adjusting the mask tonight but had a very similar feeling to you. The spot where the forehead support rests and the bridge of my nose are both a little sore today. I have my pressure set at 13, if I loosen the forehead rest too much the mask leaks a little bit. I tried a nasal mask during my titration but became very congested and started breathing through my mouth, so they put me in a full face for the rest of the titration. Ultimately, I'd like to try something that doesn't cover so much of my face but will give this a go for awhile to see if I can get used to this mask.

On the positive side, my AHI was 3.7 this morning...and I do feel pretty rested for having a small amount of interrupted sleep.

As far as breathing out against the pressure my clinician told me to set the exhalation relief to 3 (that provides the biggest decrease in pressure during exhalation).

Yes, its hard to exhale against the pressure the first week or two.. Pretty strange sensation isnt it?

Like sleeping in a tornado, or a force ten storm?

You WILL get used to it, believe it or not, and soon you will be a pro at breathing against it, dare I see, its going to feel "natural ?"

Its not a gorilla pressure so your learning curve should be a short one, I hope!
