M Series Auto w/ AFEX Whistling and It's NOT Dixie

Post by bjdare » Sat May 29, 2010 2:31 am

My M-Series has started whistling and it's driving me crazy. Most nights it starts within minutes of putting my mask on and I have no idea how long it continues. I wake up (briefly) several times during the course of the evening and don't notice it at those times. However, this morning my husband woke up around 6 a.m. and said it sounded like a freight train. More often than not, it sounds like the back up "beep" on a car or truck. I noticed an earlier post by John10 that he was having a similar problem with the PR system. I've had the M-Series for 14 months and the "whistling" has just started within the last month. Other than the annoying sound, the machine is functioning fine. Has ANYONE out there had a problem with the M-Series doing this? Not sure if I should send it for service or try to teach it a tune.

Thanks for your help / comments.

have you checked for a hole in your hose? If there isn't does your mask fit correctly?

I hear the same complaint from my wife sometimes. It always turns out to be a tiny, sporadic leak between mask and face squealing, not the flow generator.

The hose is brand new - doubled checked it just in case - and my mask is sealing great - 0 leaks. Last night, 5-10 minutes after masking up I leaned into the machine and the "whistle" sounded as if it was coming from within the machine it's self. My husband also heard it again when he woke up this morning. My pressure (90% & mean) have been unusually high the last two nights (90% at 17 & 16 vs normal of 14, mean 14.3 & 13.8 vs normal of 13.1 - 13.4) and my AHI is up (2.0 vs normal of .7). I don't know if any of this is tied to the machine or just my body having a couple of "off" days (I feel fine). I've been aware of the whistle for the last month or so, but my husband just started hearing it the last two days. I'm really not sure what to make of it!!

I would suggest hooking up and running it during the daytime while you're awake......to see if you can diagnose where the "whistle" is coming from. (take the smart card out while you're performing this "diagnostic experiment")
