Successful Newbie sends thanks

Post by fogman » Wed May 26, 2010 3:01 pm

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea earlier this year and my cardiologist prescribed CPAP therapy. I had heard horror stories about CPAP and went online to research it. Fortunately for me, discovered this forum early on and, knowingly or not, all of you have been my support team.

Now I am writing to thank all of you for the information, advice, encouragement, and testimony that have been so helpful to me.

I picked up my CPAP equipment on May 3. The first night I had four hours of usage before experiencing rainout and removing the mask. The next morning I felt better than usual—less tired and more alert. My DME suggested that I turn down the humidity level and this I did. The second night was another four hours of sleep before a high pressure event blew my night guard out of my mouth. (I am not a mouth breather.) The next day my DME rep, who by the way is also a CPAP user, helped me work out this problem. We determined that my mask was too tight and leaking. She reset my S9 from APAP to CPAP and I adjusted the straps on my mask. The third night I enjoyed eight hours of good sleep with no problems. Since then I have adjusted very well to CPAP therapy. My Zest mask has become very comfortable. I am about as conscious of it as I am of my pajama top—when I roll over from one side to another both mask and top sometimes need a little adjusting.

My AHI has consistently been less than 3, and I feel better than I have in years. I am sure that a key reason for my rapid adjustment to successful therapy has been all the good advice and information I found on this forum.

Again, I want to thank all of you.
