Mirage Liberty Mask Issues

Post by needsomesleep28 » Tue May 11, 2010 3:17 pm

Hello All:

About three weeks ago, I received the Mirage Liberty mask. At this point, it is the best mask I've used. I'm finally able to sleep more than two hours with CPAP, which is quite an accomplishment for me. I do have an issue I would like to fix...Although the mask helps me to sleep, I tend to get leaks out of the side of the mouth portion. I move around a bit in my sleep and it always starts leaking, which wakes me up. Do you have any suggestions on how to stick with this mask, but fix the face leaks?

Thanks again for all the help!

It could be that you need a different size that will fit the curvature of your face more closely.

This is an advantage of buying the original Hybrid Mask instead of the Liberty. The Hybrid comes with three sizes of mouth cushions (and three sizes of nasal pillows).

That's a good indication that it's the wrong size. It could be the corners of your mouth extend to the mask skirt, causing leakage. (mask too small). Check that in a mirror. If that's not the case, it could also be it's too large and the "ends" of the seal don't match the curve of your face and are coming unstuck under movement.

Unfortunately, the only real "fix" is the proper-sized mask. I gave up on the Liberty and bought a Hybrid. I know now I should have had a Med Liberty instead of a Large...but I've never revisited the Liberty to know for sure.

(Yep, that's two endorsements for the Hybrid...) However, there ARE people out there who swear by the Lib and the Hybrid doesn't work for them. So, basically, you roll the dice...

Liberty user here!! I assume you've played with tightening the straps? If so, I'd also say a size issue. Since it's only three weeks, you should go back to the DME and see if you can return it. Usually I think you can within 30 days. I've done well with this mask, though every now and then I have leaky nights for some reason. I bought a Hybrid about a month ago, tried it on quickly, didn't fall in love, and have set it aside. I need to get it back out again and give it another try I guess.

Good luck to you!

Since you are familiarized to the Liberty, you may not like the chinflap on the Hybrid. I cut off the chinflap, but be careful because once it is off, you can't put it back.

I have both the Liberty and the Hybrid. I use the Liberty soley because it works, but have the hybrid because once upon a time I thought I had to have it. I keep it for a back up all sized and ready to go. someday? Anyway tighten the straps and you should be ok. If not then size is a concern. My DME only sends my small mask and pillows. I assume the Hybrid doesnt part them out since mine came with 3 sizes of each. If the straps cut too much try the fleece covers.
