Would there be any negative impact from using my Resmed S9 on autoset all of the time? It was set to 6psi in cpap mode when I received it. I called my local DME to see if I could get it set to autoset because I didn't believe 6 was the correct setting anymore.
I found out how to set it myself on the forum, and found I was right. It is averaging around 10psi per night. Now the DME has called back and said they could set it to autoset for a couple of weeks and then set it permanently to whatever the average was. I asked if there was any negative consequenses to leaving on autoset and they didn't really give me an answer. They only said that they were "supposed to" set it back to the average in cpap mode after the two weeks were up.
I am contemplating not taking it in and just keeping it in autoset. I like checking the results on my PC in the morning and looking at the report. Could there be any problems with leaving it in autoset mode??

What does your data say and how do you feel? What pressure settings are you using in Auto mode?
If your data is good, and if you feel good, the closest to straight CPAP mode you need to come would be to maybe narrow the pressure range if you currently have it set really wide open.

Re: Negative impact using autoset?
Your provider can not change your pressure settings or mode w/o a doctor's order. Most likely your provider called your doctor and got permission to change to auto mode for you and then they can only leave it in auto mode for the duration your doctor specified. What YOU do is up to you.
Some people don't do as well w/constant pressure changes as they do in straight CPAP mode, others seem to do better w/modest pressure changes in auto mode.
IF you opt to switch to auto mode it would be a good idea to keep the pressure range about 5 (i.e. 6 to 11) rather than 6 to 20 . And when you make a change, stay at that ONE change for AT LEAST 3 days, better a WEEK before making any other ONE change (and this includes mask changes) UNLESS you feel much worse.

Also if your average pressure is around 10, then setting the minimum to 5 or 6 may actually be too low. Better go with 8cm minimum to start with (2 cm below your "average"). BTW when you say average, are we talking about a true average (mean) or the 90%/95% pressure?
