Nasal Pillow Mask Pressure

Post by jennwild » Sun May 09, 2010 9:34 pm

I am going to the DME to pick out my machine and mask this week. When I talked to the nurse of my doctor's ofice, I told her that I wanted to try a masal pillow mask first, either the Swift LT for Her or the Swift FX. She told me that the nasal pillows will most likely not work for me because my pressure will be too high. My pressure is going to be set at 13. Is this true? Is a pressure of 13 too high for nasal pillows?

That's what they teach em and IF you are a mouth breather it can be a problem. I am a mouth breather who has learned to use nasal pillows. My pressure is 18 and at times exceeds 20. Its much easier to seal nasal pillows than a Full Face Mask.

The nose does just what it's designed to do - regulate the air flow. Meaning it's not so bad, I can't even tell its on now.

Stick to your guns but try any and ALL masks at your FULL pressure and while laying down with your face on a pillow. Your face will change shapes is the reason.

Good Luck

According to the Mfg, ResMed, the Swift FX can be used for pressures up to 20. Have them show you the manual, and you can quickly find it.

My pressure is set to 13 and I have no trouble from that pressure.

I'd say, go for it, as this is a very comfortable mask.
