Remstar plus hrs problem

Post by DJO1985 » Tue May 04, 2010 4:44 pm

I have a Remstar Plus, I was reccently adjusting my humidifire setting when I accidently cleared the hours that were on my machine. I tried to get the hours to come back, but now it just reads the hours that I have just recently put on it. Does anyone have an idea on how to get them back? The reason I'm trying to get them back is because I need to take it in for its yearly check up and don't want to get any funny looks from Apria.

There are two "hour recordings". One is the "Blower hours" that cannot be cleared and then there are the "Therapy hours" that CAN be cleared......as you discovered. The only way you can put the therapy hours back on is by using it.

If you've been using the very same machine since May of 2006 (your forum "joined" date), then the "Blower hours" should have been about the same as the therapy hours. I'm not sure why you would worry about what Apria thinks......it should be YOUR machine (after all these years).

"Yearly checkup"? Oh, well.......

When i was renting my machine from the hospital, they were noting down the blower and the therapy hours down, to make sure that i was "compliant" otherwise the insurance wouldn't cover it anymore.

How's that work over there in the US? They never check the compliance hours for insurance purposes? (not that many of us here are renting, but anyway...)

Curious, what do they check? And if you own your machine why should they care what you do with it? If your insurance would allow it after 4years, it would be nice if you can get upgraded to a machine with data capabilities.

Dori,

I think that they check to see if your wallet has anymore $$$ in it

Call me a Cynic, but, it sounds like a "marketing ploy" to me. They probably are billing the insurance company some huge fee for the "Check".

Does bring up a point though. How often should these things be "looked at"? And what can they really do? They can replace the blower assy. or the circuit board, but, at some point they cost more to fix than to replace?

Don't they?

Cheers,

Dave

Unless they are "factory authorized" (trained) to make repairs (which most are not), all they are capable of doing is changing the filters and checking the output with a manometer.......both of which can be done at home.
Anything else inside the machine would have to be done at the factory or at a place which has "authorization" and training, like http://www.acbio.com/

It's either a public relations gimmick to keep the customer coming back (to sell supplies) or an excuse to charge somebody some money (I'm not aware of any insurance codes to allow billing for that).

The check up doesn't really matter. But since I had a problem once before with an old machine, I started bringing the new machine that they gave me in once a year or so to be checked out. They check the pressure, function test it and so forth. They never have said anything about the hours, but one time I had increased the the pressure by 1cm and they made a big fuss. Now the therapy hrs have been lost so who knows what they might say. Yes, I agree that the machine is mine and it shouldn't matter. I may be loosing my insurance and wanted them to check it. Possibly, they would have said that the machine has to many hrs on and that I needed a new machine. But now it looks brand new, still has the plastic film over the screen and has low hrs. The machine has 5,550hrs on it before it was deleted. As far as the question about checking for compliance, I have never had to bring it in to make sure I was using it.

Print the hours on plastic film and paste it over the screen. After giving you the cheapest machine they could, I wouldn't worry about what Aprea wanted unless they had a data capiable machine waiting for me to trade mine in for free., and i'm sure they don't. Leave your wallet at home and don't sign anything, then they won't be bothering you. Jim
