Squeaks and whistles when water drops form around exhaust

Post by RickKC » Mon May 03, 2010 7:41 pm

I'm fighting terrible dry mouth with my F&P Forma full face mask, so I keep turning up the humidity. I'm not to the point of having water in the hose, but the last couple of mornings I've been awakened by noise from my mask. I believe it's because of water droplets forming around the exhaust holes. I can make like a whale and blow out the water, but it just lasts long enough for me to get back to sleep before it starts squeaking and whistling again.

Since it has happened very early in the morning on cool nights, I suspect it's the combo of humidity coming down the hose combined with the natural moisture from my exhaled breath condensing on the inside of the relatively cool mask.

Any suggestions short of turning down the humidity?

Try cleaning out the exhaust holes with a cotton swab. Look for any debris that might be coming off on the swab. That should do it for ya.

Note: even if the hole is tight force the swab thru

I am not familiar with that mask, but depending on how big of holes, a toothpick, needle, or brushing with a toothbrush might work better than a q-tip.

This is true

I have masks where I end up taking them off and banging them against a washcloth or hand towel during the night (keep it by bed) to knock off excess water.

However, if the problem is dry mouth, try biotene rinse or other dry mouth products - ask your dentist - and if dry mouth persists there is a rare condition called sjorgen's syndrome http://www.sjogrens.org/ you can ask your doctor to check you for.
