Formatting the SD card for System One machines

Post by Hawthorne » Wed Apr 28, 2010 2:29 pm

I thought I remembered reading ---somewhere-- how to format the SD card for the System One machines but I can't find it.

I knew how to format the Smart Card with the M Series, etc, but what about the SD card?

Thanks!

Have you tried putting a new card just in the machine and powering it up? In many cases, the machine will take care of their directory information on the card and no special pre-formatting is needed. I have no idea in this case but wondered if you tried it. There is a very low risk of explosions or hurting the machine in any way. Just put the card in and watch the display. Thanks.

If you are using the slot on your computer. I am not sure how much difference there is in Win 7 but in XP go to "My Computer" , insert the card in the slot. Rt click that slot in "My Computer". Scroll down to Reformat.

I like your new avatar I was going to tell you that.

Did you buy a bigger card? I was wondering what happens if you use a card bigger than the 2G that comes with the machine.

Please let us know if you was able to format the card.

I'm using the card that came with the machine. I'll report anything I discover.

Hawthorne

I know that if you are using Encore Pro 2.2 there is a "check Box" that allows you to save the data when you download from the SD card.

So I would just leave that unchecked and it should "erase" the data.

Also, I think if you followed the other suggestion and formatted the card on your PC, the machine will automatically set up files etc. when you insert the card into the machine.

At least that is what happened when I got a "Swap Loaner" Card from my DME so I could mail my data in to the DME. (YMMV )

Just curious, why do you want to erase the card? It seems to have a boatload of data storage before it overwrites data.

Cheers,

Dave

The only reason I am interested in formatting the card is that, because of Rheumatoid Arthritis- which has a fatigue factor, I sometimes have an afternoon nap and, of course, use my cpap. I don't like the nap data messing up the overnight data.

On the M Series, I could just remove the Smart card for a nap, put it back in the machine at night and the nap data never appeared. That doesn't work with the SD card.

I don't nap every day and yesterday, I did not. I got just the night's data. Just trying to find a way to do that every day. So far, the only thing I can see to do is to reset the machine after the nap if I have a nap during the afternoon.

Just thought I had read somewhere that you could format the SD card.

Roger that Hawthorne! Geez they don't give us a break now.

As it appears to me, the new Pro series (System One?? or whatever they are calling it today) stores data internally while the SD card is "pulled" then it writes to the SD card that is re-inserted.

So even if you format it it will probably just write the data to the card when you put it back in the machine.

I am sure that there must be someone out there who could comment on fact not just my conjecture.

Good luck and I'll watch this thread as I would be interested in "Hard facts" as well.

Cheers,

Dave

you're correct. I took my card out for 2 days and it wrote the data to the card the minute I re-inserted it.

If you have Encore Pro 2.2, you don't need to re-format the card. On the upper right of the screen there is a "utilities" button. Select that and one of the drop-down menu items is "erase data on card".

OK, for a few minutes on the computer you can accomplish what you want (afternoon data not recorded).

After waking in the morning, copy the data from the card (it is only one directory) to your desktop.

After napping delete the data on your card and move the saved data from your desktop back to the card.

Afternoon data will be gone but it will take two or three minutes of your time before and after.

Since it is not a special memory device like the old Smart Card you treat it like any other memory device on your computer. Thumb drive, XD Card, SD Card, etc. It can be formatted with Windows and can be saved and restored with Windows from your desktop or where ever you decide to save it. It is no longer a special memory device it does not require special drivers to handle it.
