My first night using a Resmed S9 auto
My insurance hardware provider was going to give me a Respronices M series with a humidifier. They said I had to buy the humidifier then lease the CPAP for $40.00 per month for 15 months. I was really worried about the quietness of the machine. After doing the math and comparing the M series to the S9 the s9 won out. I bought the S9 Autoset outright with a humidifier. My sleep study results said I need a pressure of 17 and a c_flex of 3. I had a ramp time of 45 minutes with a min pressure of 4 and a max pressure of 20. I must have fallen asleep within the ramp time because about an hour latter I woke with my mask, a Respronics fulllife, was almost being blown off my face, with leaks everywhere. Not knowing what to do I powered the S9 off/on and restarted the ramp. Again about an hour latter the same issue. I took the mask off for the night. Can I lower the max pressure or do something else until I get used to this. I know that I would not get all the benefits if I lower the pressure> Please help and Thanks

So, your mask fits fine at 4 cm, but leaks as the pressure goes up?rlamoreaux wrote: My sleep study results said I need a pressure of 17 and a c_flex of 3. I had a ramp time of 45 minutes with a min pressure of 4 and a max pressure of 20.
I would try using the Mask Fitting feature. Put your mask on. From the the home menu, push the big button for 3 seconds. It will give you 10 cm pressure, or your set CPAP pressure (whichever is greater), and a green face (good) or a red face (adjust mask).
As far as your settings go, for APAP, I think the range should be closer to your titrated pressure. That is, raising the minimum, for a range of 14-20? If you start at 4, it takes longer for your xpap to respond to events, because it has "further to go".
Note that If your EPR (exhale relief) is set at 3, it reduces your exhale pressure by 3 cm, so if it's comfortable for you, you could try an EPR of 2. I have mine at 2. Some people turn it off entirely.
The ramp time is variable from 0 to 45 minutes, so you may need to experiment to see what feels best to you.

The FullLife is a notoriously leaky mask... not many people have had luck with getting leak under control with that mask (just do a search on this forum for it). You may want to focus on getting a mask that will work at your relatively high pressure needs... as opposed to lowering your pressure. I don't think this is an issue of getting used to it... leaks will always be disturbing to your sleep and should be addressed.

Thanks everybody. Ill try the mask fit tonight. I was able to get Resscan 3.10 installed and it detected my card reader. How do you create the flow/leakage report?

Im going to answer my own question. After the card reader is detected and you have resscan 3.1 installed. Click on download, On the right there is a selection button the allows you to select what you want to download.

That's 10cm? Wow, no wonder I have woken up at ~11cm with the mask almost popping off my face! I don't know how people with such a high pressure prescribed get used to it.KatieW wrote: I would try using the Mask Fitting feature. Put your mask on. Well the second night went a little better. The mask still leaked if I moved around at all. But at least I used it all night long. Im going to exchange the mask for a next size down and see it that helps the leaks. Respronics does not have much of a choise on full face masks. On another subject. If you get up during the night and diconnect the hose from the mask, does that count a a leak?
Re: My first night using a Resmed S9 auto
Yes... the machine will count that as an excessive leak. You should shut off the pressure before doing that.rlamoreaux wrote:If you get up during the night and diconnect the hose from the mask, does that count a a leak?
