S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
Hi, first time cpap user and Im stuck! I decided on the S8 autoset II and now Im getting sucked into the advertising for the S9 even though it slightly exceeds my budget!
Whats important to me is: Data access, quiteness, comfort and resale value. I dont care for size, looks or even durability.
Can you please vote!

Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
I'm not sure where you are buying that there is a $300 difference, but on cpap.com, the difference is only $102 with humidifier (assuming you get the ClimateLine hose, which you should or you are missing out on the best feature of the S9)... well worth it IMHO. I have used both machines and have to say that the S9 is quieter, more comfortable (due to climate control) and has more detailed data available. The S8 Autoset II is a fine machine, though, so if you go with that you are still getting a top of the line APAP.

Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
The S8 autoset II + H4i is $619 at cpapblowouts.com vs $907 at cpap.com = massive saving of $288
The S9 autoset + H5i is $899 at cpapblowouts.com vs $1072 at cpap.com = saving of $173 <-- both without comfortline hose
I know cpap.com has an excellent reputation, but what am I missing here? How can cpapblowouts.com be so much cheaper? I have read a few good reports of cpapblowouts.com and they have no complaints on BBB so I feel confident ordering from them. The S8 + H4i @ $619 seems like a steal, but for an extra $300, the S9 is very tempting, hence my poll

Unless you are planning to also get the ClimateLine hose separately (or at least planning to upgrade later), I'm not sure I'd bother with upgrading to the S9--that is really the key feature. The S9 is not that much more quiet than the S8... they are both pretty quiet.
I wonder how cpapblowouts is getting around Resmed's minimum internet price policy.

Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
The thing you're missing is that you have to call to get a better deal. Online prices are artificially inflated by ResMed policies. You have to call the number to order by phone - not web - to get the better price. Cpapblowouts may lose their permission to sell ResMed products by advertising a price on line that is below the ResMed sanctioned on-line price.Isako wrote:The S8 autoset II + H4i is $619 at cpapblowouts.com vs $907 at cpap.com = massive saving of $288

If this has changed, someone please correct me. Thanks.
P.S. Web of Trust hasn't ranked cpapblowouts.com yet.

Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
Although I love my S8, because of Resmed's current cockamamie prices, if I had to buy another machine today it would be the Devilbiss Intellipap auto + humidifier for less than one half the price (No, I don't use EPR). And according to discussions here, the S9's humidifier may have some problems. The DeVilbiss also has a three year warranty while Resmed has two years.
Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
I was under the impression it had changed from posts that occurred just after the March 15 policy was put into place... that phone sales were not an allowed way to get around the minimum price policy and that online retailers like cpap.com and others quickly changed their phone pricing too (presumably at the request/requirement of Resmed). I could be mistaken too, as I haven't had a reason to call them about pricing since I got my S9 in the "before time" at a good price.DreamDiver wrote:If this has changed, someone please correct me. Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
Having used the S9 AutoSet for a month, (and the S8 AutoSet II for 5 months), I would definitely pay $300 more for it. Amortized over 3 to 5 + years (expected lifespan), it is a very small difference in price.
I haven't had a drop of rain out with the Climate Control. Worth the price for that alone.
It is quieter, but not significantly, since the S8 is very quiet. I can tolerate apap on the S9, while I couldn't on the S8. Also, the EPR and pressure changes feel gentler to me. I had very good therapy from the S8, but I sleep better with the S9.
The software gives much more information, the most useful to me is Central Apneas.

This is correct - it's chaged.CPAP.COM now sells at the MIRP. Fortunately I got my S9 a day before the change.jmelby wrote:I was under the impression it had changed from posts that occurred just after the March 15 policy was put into place... that phone sales were not an allowed way to get around the minimum price policy and that online retailers like cpap.com and others quickly changed their phone pricing too (presumably at the request/requirement of Resmed). Can you elaborate on why you think this is?KatieW wrote:I can tolerate apap on the S9, while I couldn't on the S8.

Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
I don't know the technical reason. But on APAP on the S8 AutoSet II, the changes in pressure disturbed my sleep, and I woke up frequently (every hour or so). Any higher than 11 cm H2O, and I got severe aerophagia (bloating).
I can use APAP on the S9 AutoSet, and the changes seems more gentle/gradual to me. I can go up to 12 cm H2O, with only a little aerophagia. I have found that I prefer CPAP though, once I found my optimum pressure, I just stay at that. AHI are same on both, so it's just a personal preference.

Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
The most significant difference between the S8 AutoSet II and the S9 AutoSet is the ability to detect nonobstructive (or clear airway) events (often referred to as "centrals" but not exactly the same thing) and the new AutoSet algorithm based on that ability. AutoSet can now be more aggressive in responding to events without the concern for inducing nonobstructive events.

Re: S9 Autoset > S8 Autoset II + $300 ?
My interest in the S8 vs S9 debate is that folks who've made the switch seem to have a lower HI. It's not clear from my searches/reading whether this is real or if the S9 scores hypopneas differently. My mild OSA (AHI 11) is composed almost entirely of hypopneas - I've had 2 sleep studies and only had one apnea event one night, none the other. On my S8 AutoSet II, my AI is 0.0, but my HI/AHI is 4.7 on the S8 Autoset II. I was just interested if the differences between the S8 and S9 with regards to the hypopnea index were real or imagined, and if switching might make me feel better (an expensive experiment )
