Trouble Falling asleep with CPAP Mask (Liberty)

Post by needsomesleep28 » Sat Apr 17, 2010 7:30 am

I've been really struggling with CPAP for quite a long time...Recently, I realized that opening my mouth throughout the night could have something to do with it. Subsequently, I purchased the Liberty mask, which covers the mouth and has nasal pillows. Like many other masks, I have major issues falling asleep with it. I'm hoping that if I can just get to sleep then I'll stay that way.

Any suggestions on falling asleep would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much!

I use 3mg OTC Melatonin. It's cheap and it does help me. Bottle of 300 $5.99 at Costco.

The Liberty will keep you from opening your mouth wide but you can still open it a little. Some people (like me) get better results if they use a chin strap to keep the mouth closed. I use a pap cap for this. I also wear a fanny pack on my back to prevent me from sleeping on my back. In my case if I sleep on my back and my mouth opens even a little my tongue will block my airway.

give more information about your machine settings and maybe people can help you with the falling asleep question. Are you ramping up the pressure so you have 30 minutes or so of less pressure to help fall asleep?
