Help with reading ResScan data

Post by Mount Snorius » Thu Apr 15, 2010 10:53 am

Hi. I am trying to figure out where I am going wrong. Have had the Resmed S9 since March 29, and have not had a real good nights sleep. Have tried various settings, but just can't seem to get it right. Of particular concern is the leak graph. If I am reading it right, seems to be leaking worse than 25 kids in the community pool. Have been trying to get a hold of the Clinician's Manual for the ResScan 3.10, but no luck so far. I have been looking at some of the other graphs that people have posted and compare to what I am getting. But, still a bit (ok, a lot) confused as to which graph correlates with other ones. Any help would be welcomed. Thank you in advance.

Oh, my original cpap was set to a steady pressure of 8. With the S9, I have set it to a low of 7, and a high of 10. When I tried using EPR, any level, events would come in at 3-6 in a night.

Thank you again.

As Grandmom would say, "fasten your seat belt and hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride." Or, maybe that was Bette Davis. IDK, it's all just starting to run together now.

Kick every one of those kids out of the pool right now! No wonder you slept poorly.
There's more than a small chance you are breathing through your mouth. Whatever the cause, your leaks are out of control.

Mount Snorius, I just sent you a PM.

That's hilarious!

I agree with Rebecca that your leaks are crazy out of control! It definitely looks like mouth-breathing/leaking to me. You could try a chin strap (such as the PAPCap) and/or mouth-taping, but that may not be enough. You may need to use a full face or hybrid mask. Also, make sure that you don't have any leaks/tiny holes in your hoses (the larger one and the smaller mask tube). And if you think there's any leaking from the nasal pillows, try a difference size and/or secure them using one of the "lab rat" fixes here: viewtopic.php?t=15104.

I wish you well with your therapy,

DreamOn

Leak line shows you might as well be sleeping on a raft in that pool with the leaky kids.
Try a full face mask. This mask is my favorite:

But you'll need a strap from a different full face mask, since the one that comes with the zzz is junk.

Thanks to Rebecca R (love the profile pic, its the way I look most morns), DreamOn (will do my part to pass the kindness on), Uncle_Bob (quite the breakfast you got going there) and DreamDiver (looks like you have a severe rain out issue happening) for your help.

I am researching the links you provided and will try a few things out. Although I have considered using SuperGlue to keep the nasal pillows tight, I will hold off for the moment and try a few less radical remedies.

To paraphrase Jackie Gleason, you guys and gals are the greatest.

You may need to seriously consider using a full nasal mask instead of nostril prong mask.....

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks, Bill. Have been trying to avoid the Darth Vader look, but may have to just suck it up.

By the look of your leaks.. and the real possibility that you are mouth-breathing with any type of Nasal mask... some experimented with other types of keeping the mouth closed. Your pressure is not that high that "pillows" won't work.

If you find your mask comfortable... that's one part of the equation. Don't give up on your mask yet. Try some of the other methods of working on Leaks. You definitely need to address the leaks but another mask isn't necessarily the answer. If all those fail... look at other Nasals that solve your mask leaks or if you can't stop the mouth leaks... Full Face masks are an option.

FFM's have a much bigger seal area and thus can be more stubborn about leaks but added value means less nose issues.

Good luck...

Try the Hybrid mask: the comfort of pillows and security of not losing therapy air with the oral cushion. I hadda give up my beloved OptiLife pillow mask when I started losing therapy air. Hybrid was my choice & works well for me.

Hi Gerry

When you got 3.10... one of the pdf files included was the Clinician Manual for ResScan.
