Newbie has question about Resmed Apap Autoset S9
I am very new to all this and want to thank you all in advance as I've been reading on here now since I got my apnea diagnosis and felt quite prepared to start therapy. My question is that I am not able to see all the data on my LCD screen that seems to be available to the rest of you using this machine. On my sleep quality screen all that is there is "usage" with the hours of use. I have tried scrolling through everything but have a feeling that for some unknown reason this information might have been disabled for my use. There seems to be a little tool under "usage" but it isn't highlighted and doesn't light up or have anything next to it. I have read and am grateful for the information on how to get to the clinician's screen and plan to change some things after I have had my data card read the first time but for now don't want to do anything without talking to the DME provider. I just wondered if anyone else had this experience or if somehow I'm not using the screen correctly. I am not nearly the techie so many of you seem to be! I really just would like to see the data on the leaks and the AHI that I have seen on the screen prints some of you have posted. I do have a second screen that has "mask fit" and shows me the smiley face or frowney face if the mask is leaking but only if I sit up and push buttons etc., so by then whether the mask is leaking is somewhat irrelevant. That screen also has a place to set what kind of mask but no AHI. I hope I have posted this correctly and do thank anyone in advance for their assistance.
I would like to say that I have used my machine for two nights and aside from the "close" feeling of having something on my face am doing ok and have already felt encouraged just by reading posts here, very nice support group! I have the humidifier and all that is working well. I had borrowed a cpap for two months which wasn't set nearly high enough for me, per my study and prescription, prior to receiving my own so was already feeling much better. I truly had a good response from the beginning just with this borrowed one. No more falling asleep at my desk or in the movies, no more brain fog, yippee!! No more being nudged that I am snoring in places where that should never be done, UGH! So I will be compliant as I feel so much better but I have no idea if my apnea is better. The DME fellow told me he didn't think the other cpap was stopping my apneas since my settings are twice to three times as high but the night and day difference that I felt makes me think that can't be correct. Regardless I would like to have more feedback and do not plan to stay in the dark if this machine is supposed to be giving me more information. At this time I do not want to get the software and follow that closely but would surely like to see the AHI from each night's sleep. If I can't figure this out with help on here I will simply call the DME and ask why I can't see what so obviously everyone else can. Here's to everyone having a cozy night's sleep. Kathy

Try the advanced info menu, press and hold both i and double check buttons for 3 seconds. More details on the advanced info screen are in the clinical manual. There is a link to download the clinical manual in this post.ksilb wrote:On my sleep quality screen all that is there is "usage" with the hours of use. Re: Newbie has question about Resmed Apap Autoset S9
Thanks so much fiberfan! I found the screen and was able to check my AHI this morning. I am not certain if 0 is the goal here, and please fill me in anyone who reads this if that is the case as I can't seem to find this information, but am feeling like I got an amazing response as I went from an AHI at my study, where I had a horrid night I admit, of 113.3 to last night's reading of 1.6. I hope it stays like this. I'm feeling very well rested!
I do have one more little question. Was considering purchasing some of the disinfectant wipes from cpap.com. Has anyone used them? Are they different from other non-cpap speciality disinfectant wipes? I don't want to use anything that might damage my mask but they seem kind of pricey if any other kind can be used. Thanks and here's to another lovely night for us all. Kathy

Re: Newbie has question about Resmed Apap Autoset S9
Hi,
AHI is the addition of AI (not breathed at all for at least ten seconds) and HI (breathed, but not enough).
Regards
Andreas
Yes it is. Everything under about 7 should be OK, less than about 2 is perfect. 113 seems extremely high, as everything over 40 is considered a very high apnea rate.ksilb wrote:I am not certain if 0 is the goal here

Re: Newbie has question about Resmed Apap Autoset S9
Actually, the "goal" is an AHI less than 5.0 and an AI of less than 1.0 It is unreasonable to consistently expect an AHI of 0 altho that might occur rarely to occasionally.

Thank you so much for that information. Yes, the AHI from the study was very high. Now I don't have the study in my hands yet though I've requested it. But that was what the DME provider told me. He did comment a few times that it was a high index. And I was approved for this great machine with settings at 12-18 so again evidence I think of severity. During the study I did not feel that I was sleeping at all. Felt that I was just laying there but at one point I asked to get up for a break and asked the tech, who gave me no other information, if I was sleeping at all. She said I was though very restlessly. The whole night was somewhat atypical as I was tense about the whole thing and did take an Ambien, which I rarely do so I'm not sure if that would have affected anything or not. I do look forward to receiving the study and seeing the numbers myself but that was what he told me. I do so much appreciate all comments and learning provided to me by the kind folks on this board. There is much to learn and without a group like this it would be so much more difficult as I am not getting information from the doctor and not that much from the DME. Have a great day. Kathy

Re: Newbie has question about Resmed Apap Autoset S9
Thank you all again for your answers and support! I was pretty frustrated this morning as my AHI was up again, this time to a little over 6. Steady increase over the previous few nights (1.6, 4.3 and then 6.3) and that's as long as I've been using the machine. Then I read the thread about fluctuating numbers and felt better. I'm aware that I am only seeing a portion of the picture as I only have the data on the machine screen to go by, but since I now can at least see that due to your answers, I feel a little better informed. I feel fine, better than I have in quite a long time so I'm going by that as well. I think in time I might become convinced to get the software and watch this a little more carefully, though not generally techie inclined, but for now I am just doing night by night. This morning I figured out how to see the data over a week or month or three months so little by little I'm becoming familiar with the screen info. I did download the clinician manual again due to information given me here and again thanks for that. I just hope to see a downward trend again and do understand from reading here that it's the long haul and averages, not nightly information, that is most pertinent. It's weird to feel like you are "failing" at something over which you have rather little control, ie how you sleep. It helps to see on here that I'm by no means alone. I forgot to mention that my average pressures have been trending upwards as well. All the way to over 17 last night with my setting at 12-18 so last night must just not have been a good one though I slept for a full five hours without waking for a bathroom break and felt really good upon awakening. I did, however, have a rather stressful evening. I will sleep better, I think I can, I know I can...that's the little engine that could with apnea...LOL. Everyone have a wonderful weekend and again thanks so much for reaching out to me and making me feel welcome here where the experts reside! Kathy

Re: Newbie has question about Resmed Apap Autoset S9
I'm a bit over two weeks on my compliance machine, but since I have been having very high hemoglobins and having to be checked every two weeks and being bled when it gets over 14, I'm thrilled that altho' I had no idea I had a problem other than the hemoglobin, and I can't really say I'm feeling better yet, my blood work is really great and my compliance is very good. I'll be getting my Resmed Apap Autoset S9 very soon now. As I'm having problems with my mask moving around on my face, this will be great to be able to see what my AHI shows.
Congratulations to you!
