Fellow cpaper,
I was wondering if I should tape my mouth with my ResMed Mirage Liberty to get better numbers? I am at a pressure of 12cm and my AHI has been on an average of 4.8. I would like to see if I can get it lower. I know some people who use ResMed Machines get an AHI of 2.? something and I would love to get there? Any help would be nice. I look forward to hearing from you cpapers.
Sincerely,
Chad

Hi, Chad-
I see that you are still using your Liberty and actually, an AHI of 4.8 with a Resmed machine is pretty good. However, I don't think that taping your mouth makes much sense with that particular mask, because the whole point of the liberty is to allow you to breath through your mouth and use nasal pillows at the same time. I am thinking that you might as well use a mask that is only nasal pillows and tape your mouth if you are going to do that. Does that make sense?
As you know, I stopped using the Liberty after a while because I just didn't have success with it. I then tried the Comfortgel full face mask, but now I am having the most success with the Comfortgel NASAL mask and taping my mouth. (actually last night the tape fell off and I still had a great night!) My AHI is almost always between 2.0-3.5 and my AI is usually from 0.0-1.3. My leak rate is always low, and I just generally feel great. The mask is comfy and because it is only on my nose, it is not as uncomfortable as something that covers my nose and mouth.
Anyway, that's been my experience. It might be something that you would want to try, if you are looking to try something new or to lower your AHI. However, again, I think your AHI is good. How are you feeling? That's the important thing, right?
Take care,
Melissa
