OT: Congress wipes out congressional health care insurance

Post by Wulfman » Tue Apr 13, 2010 3:23 pm

I've been hearing this story on TV today, so I looked it up.

http://www.examiner.com/x-35532-Dallas- ... -insurance

Edit:
According to Nancy Pelosi: “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy."

OK......I guess they found out......if this story is true.

I hope Fox News picks up on this to make sure that nothing "funny" goes on behind closed doors.

That's where I originally heard about this story, but couldn't readily find it on their website, so I decided to do a Google search for another source. (since some people are skeptical of the news from that channel)

They were interviewing one of MY senators while they were relating the story. It sounds like there are lots of senators and representatives who are having an OMG moment.

Poor moronic Congressmen, put in the position of being just like all of us wondering "what the hell?' when it comes to our health insurance!

This may be the original source of the news leak ...

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/13/us/po ... ss&emc=rss

Just one more reason to begin replacing every incumbant, regardless of party affiliation and voting in any independent candidate (NON- DEM/GOP) that runs.

This insanity of voting only GOP or DEM is just not working. They don't even read the laws that the corporate lobbyists are writing for them anymore.

Well, Speaker Pelosi herself said we have to pass the bill first before we can understand it. I didn't realize she was also talking about Congress and not just us "dummies".

In terms of understanding the bill, we ain't seen nothin' yet. After Congress passes a bill, it goes to appointed executive department officials and their "civil servants" for interpretation, explication, and enforcement. The bill itself, I've read, is a couple thousand pages long. This will give rise to tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of pages of rules and regulations to be written and posted in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), which have the force of law created by non-elected federal officials.

Not to be repeatedly, repetitiously redundant, but "We ain't seen nothin' yet."

I have to admit, I find this somewhat amusing. It is, in fact, contrary to other things I had heard - such as Congress exempting themselves from the Act in toto.

I like to think that we all, regardless of political affiliation, can agree that ALL citizens of this great country should be eligible to receive quality health care - regardless of their income or social status.

My personal opinion is that the "reform" needs to begin with the insurance companies - our doctors should be able to practice medicine, not insurance. Every patient is different, therefore an insurance company's "formula" for healthcare for a specific condition may not be appropriate for every patient. If a doctor's treatment protocol varies from the "formula", OMG. Who knows my body better than me and my doctor? surely not some committee of insurance company physicians and adjusters who have never seen me, never seen my records or how I respond to various medications or situations. Unfortunately - its all about the money, not the patient.

SOrry for my "rant"

Well said.

I think that placing a price on nation's health is the same as placing a price on the nation's security.

I was talking to a friend who is going back for another tour in Afghanistan later this summer. He has been in the Army for over 30 years and was noting how our military is becomming more and more privitized and significantly less efficient. He said the red tape has ballooned to the point that they can no longer do their mission because they are too wrapped up managing private contracts, protecting private contractors, and having to wait on and/or make policy for every move they make out in the field. It sounded a lot like our healthcare system.

People are constantly bashing how governemnt can't do anything right. It seems to me the only time government can't do something right is when they involve the private sector to perform public services. Profit motives of the private sector always totally cancel out any benefit from a public service. This healthcare bill is a perfect example. Our elected governemnt officials now allow the private sector to write national legislation (legislation that congress people were voted in to write but are too busy to do themselves cuz they are campaigning for the next election) and we are suffering the consequences. Our government would work just fine if we kept the private sector out of it.
