Hubby had Titration - finally!

Post by Jersey Girl » Sun Apr 11, 2010 5:13 pm

Dear Friends,

After being away for a long weekend for a short vacation, we finally got the insurance company to authorize a titration study for my husband John and off to the sleep lab he went on thursday night. They gave him a comfort gel full face mask, since he is a mouth breather, but he said that the mask leaked a lot. And, they gave him a medium, when he thinks he needs a large as it was sitting on his lower lip, and pressing against his teeth. Ah, the trials and tribulations of a poorly fitting mask!

In any case, I am hoping that we can eventually go onto the next step of having the insurance company authorize a cpap. I have already talked to the nurse practitioner at the dr. office and even if insurance denies us, they WILL write us the prescription, as John snores so loudly that we are now sleeping in separate rooms. He doesn't have OSA but he does have Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome with 180 arousals during his first sleep study. However, I was informed that insurance usually won't pay for cpap for UARS, even though it is a documented treatment for this condition.

So, let's just hope for the best...

Jersey Girl

Hi, Jersey Girl. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that your insurance authorizes a CPAP for your husband. You need the peace and quiet, and he needs restful sleep!

If they won't pay for it, you should be able to find one at a reasonable price through cpapauction.com or Craigslist. At least you've already "blazed the trail," so you have a good idea what you'd be looking for, etc.

I hope you enjoyed your mini-vacation. Please let us know how things go!

I'm so glad he finally got in for the study! Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly w/ the insurance. I know all too well about having my hubby in the other room...I hated it, so I understand you wanting back with you.

Keep us posted!
Beth
