Advice for New User
HELP! I'm a new user (under a week) and I'm having difficulty adjusting to wearing the mask and I'm laying awake most of the night. Any advice on getting the mask adjusted properly and learning to sleep with it?

Hang in there, don't be a primmadonna. Don't feel sorry for yourself. It's good for ya. Pat in the back for actually getting it. I just started, and even though I wanted it. I'm having noob troubles already. I'm sticking with it. You do it too

What about the mask is the problem? What mask are you wearing?1winddancer wrote:HELP! I'm a new user (under a week) and I'm having difficulty adjusting to wearing the mask and I'm laying awake most of the night. Any advice on getting the mask adjusted properly and learning to sleep with it?
Remember that sleeping with a mask and a machine blowing air in your nose and/or mouth isn't natural. For most of us it takes time to adjust. I am just past the 1 month point and still have some rough nights though my energy level is improved.

Re: Advice for New User
Please let us know what kind of mask you have. And how is it preventing you from sleeping? Did someone fit you for the mask?
The first mask that I got was a full face mask that left red marks on my face and nose: all morning at work! And it was sized all wrong.
Let me congratulate you for going forward with your CPAP use and caring enough to succeed. This is evidenced by your asking for help here.

I don't know if this will help but the way I got used to the mask was to
1) Ensure you don't fall asleep in the day
2) Make sure you're tired, even if it's early like 8pm, go to bed when you're tied, there's more of a chance you getting off to sleep quicker
3) If you have a radio or a TV in the bedroom, put it on low and try to listen to it to take your mind off the mask, it'll help you get off to sleep more quicker (set a timer on it if you have one, or use a timer plug and set it for an hour)
Also depending on what mask you have can make a world of difference. Some people have problems getting used to facial masks and prefer nasal prongs or nasal pillow masks. The more I think about it I would probably have had problems if I started with Nasal Pillows as I started with a regular Nasal mask and for me luckily it was like leading a duck to water, I adapted very quickly.
Hope some of the above helps.
Thanks
Dave
