S9 Software

Post by RickLR » Sat Apr 03, 2010 11:31 am

Yesterday my S9 arrived and I used it for the first time last night. Too soon to say after just one night; I seemed to wake more often, but I also feel more rested -- though that could be because today is Saturday and I got up at 8:30a instead of 5:30a.

I did change the auto setting range from 4-20, squeezing it to 8-18 (the setting prescribed was 14 and the doc recommended straight CPAP mode). I also turned EPP on and set to "2." (I do have the clinician's manual). Long term, I plan to try it at 14 with the auto off and EPR off (straight CPAP, which is what I'm used to), try it at various auto ranges, EPR off/on with different , etc. But I would like to have the software to review the data. Long story short: could someone please PM the location of the software for reviewing the SD card data?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Hi Rick, congrats on getting an S9. I sent you a PM, let me know if you need anything else.

I wouldn't reduce the max limit unless you have problems with your previous machine running away at higher values making it uncomfortable, just increase the min pressure would be good. Otherwise, if you were to have an Apnea above 18 then the machine won't be able to respond as you have set the upper limit to 18.

If your titration level was at 14cm, then I would put the min pressure just below 14 to allow it to respond more quickly. If you know what your previous machine was set to, and you're happy with these settings then I would set it up similarly.

Thanks
Dave

Hi, Dave:

My previous machine (the Tranquility Plus) only had straight pressure at a single setting. It had been set at 10cm (from years ago), the more recent sleep study resulted in a prescription of 14cm; I came home and reset the Tranquility Plus to 14cm.

When I decided on the S9, I talked to the folks where I ordered it (online); she suggested the problem most people have with transitioning from a straight, single-pressure CPAP is they report either not enough air or too much air -- or both. She said their company would be required to set it with a low of 4cm and a high of 20cm, but she suggested I might want to shrink the range around what I'm used to. Having been used to 10cm for about thirteen years and 14cm for about two weeks now, I figured the 8 to 18 would give me a chance to evaluate the auto set algorithm without going too far outside of where I'm used to having it set (10cm &, last three weeks, 14cm).

I'm open to advice as I might be missing the boat, but based on her input that was my thinking. I will add I had a lengthy discussion about this with the head of the clinic where I had the recent sleep study done (I asked lots of questions, the lady writing the 'script finally went and got him to come in). His recommendation was to continue with a straight CPAP, single pressure, no auto set, no EPR.
