S9 SpO2 module - can anyone ask their rep what one ?
S9 SpO2 module - can anyone ask their rep what one ?
In particular ask if the S9 accepts a Nonin 3012 or Nonin 3212 - these are stated as working with the ResLink as per the latest ResLink manual.
(I'll be asking them too but last time I had no luck despite having aqquired some 3012 & 3212 units - I wrongly assumed the 3011 & 3211 were the correct SpO2 units & tried to adpat one but it just didn't work !!! - Now I know I was WRONG !. Ahh well we live & learn but I do have Nonin 3012 & 3212 units With luck these will work with the S8 Reslink AND the S9 SpO2 adpater.
Many thanks

dsm, I'll e-mail my local Resmed manufacturer Rep and ask him. Will let you know when I hear back from him. He's been busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest and is breaking in a new Rep as they are splitting his territory since it is getting just too big for one person to handle. I'm hoping he doesn't give up our section of his present territory, altho the new Rep seems like a pretty nice gal. He's just been tremendously helpful to me. He's the one who volunteered to provide Resmed equipment for this recent bi-level re-titration and to stay and observe for a few hours - yeah, the in-lab re-titration I just blew my not sleeping .... *sigh* Someone goes outta their way for you and you blow it ... you feel like a real turd.

You are lucky to get that sort of attention. From what you are saying it seems like a job at that company is a good one these days

Its an Embla (which is owned by or in some way affiliated w/Nonin). I vaguely remember, I think in a history of Resmed and its growth and acquisitions and affiliations that Resmed bought into, bought out or in some way affiliated w/Embla which it seems to me was a Scandanavian company?? Vague memories of what I read is all.

Thanks for the info re your unit Slinky.
What is also interesting is that Respironics also had / have a module that accepts one of the nonin units for Spo2. But, I don't know what software displays it or what Resp module the SpO2 plugs into.

Well, hell's belles, Doug, I'll e-mail my Respironics Rep and ask HIM about what Nonin oximeter for the PRS1s, module, software, etc. too. (These guys are gonna regret giving me their business card!! )

DSM:
A good find helpful info. I looked at page 28 but no SpO2 brand was mentioned (that I could see). The Nonin xPod 3012 info I got came directly from a ResLink manual I obtained recently and from Slinky and my experiences at trying various brands of SpO2 unit (I tried a Nonin xPod 3011 unit hooked to a Reslink - it didn't work). I never tried the 3012 / 3212 units I already had because I was convinced, based on lots of research, that the ResLInk did not handle the high volume data from the 3012/3212 units (seems I got that bit wrong), but, had nothing to go on until the past month when at last I located a Resmed doc that actually specified the Nonin 3012 xPod).
But thanks muchly for that find, it all helps such as the mention of a conversion cable for the ApneaLink ...
>>22961 - Oximeter converter cable - This converter cable allows ApneaLink™ pulse oximeter to fit the
oximeter port for either the ResLink™ or S8 ResLink<<
DSM:
I WOULD LOVE a converter cable that converts the std Nonin 3012 xPod & std Nonin 3212 iPod, to the Resmed Reslink 3-pin plug. I emailed a photo of the Resmed plug to Nonin 18 months ago & the person I was dealing with said they had no idea where the Resmed 3-pin plug came from
plus this info on Page 29 ...
>>22304 ApneaLink Oximetry Kit
Provides oximetry and pulse information to the ApneaLink/ApneaLink Plus recorder
devices. Uses single-use or reusable probes. Must be used in conjunction with ApneaLink
and ApneaLink Plus only. Kit includes oximeter (XPOD), oximeter sensor clip and 3 single
use sensors.<<
DSM:
The above xPod has to be the Nonin xPod 3012 (which by default includes the iPod 3212 which is a finger probe integrated with an xPod).
Thanks

Doug, our local hospital was offering overnight ApneaLink at no charge last year. Assuming they still have the ApneaLinks I could try to see if they would let me compare my 3 pin plug to their ApneaLink plug.
I'll try to get in town next week to do that. Actually, next week is going to be another week like last week. Running early Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. *sigh* I'll try calling Monday and see if I can arrange it one of the three days.

Hi DSM!
I also left a note in the other thread about the 3 pin. If you could send me the pics that would be great! I'll send you my e-mail address via PM.
Slinky, are those free overnight tests still available at all? One of the hospital systems in Michigan? I am near Ann Arbor.
I am pretty sure my 11 year old has sleep apnea. He used to snore terribly when he was in the 3rd grade. He was quite thin and fit at the time. I didn't know about sleep apnea then. We could hear him clearly at the end of the upstairs hall. Now he is in 6th grade and a lot heavier, but still snores.
I have him scheduled for a physical in a few weeks with hi sprimary care. But then we will get a referal, they will probably tell us he is overweight, etc. etc. If I had some **data** I think it would speed up the whole process quite a bit. It takes months otherwise to let the docs go through their own thought process before you can convcince them of anything.
The other thing I was thinking of doing with him was an overnight oximeter test. But I would have to buy one, I don't have a recording one now. I don't think I need one for myself anymore, I am down to 0 to 1.0 AHI each night since getting on the ASV! Happy!
Thanks!
Michael

Michael, it is Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, MI - about an hour and a half, two hour drive from your area.
You might be able to push your family doctor to at least script an overnight oximetry. You need a script to get one. My local DME provider, Sheldon Medical Supply, charges $35 if I remember correctly.
I'd offer to loan you my SPO 7500 but I've loaned it out to someone and had to borrow a Contect CMS-50D+ from another friend for myself right now. You can get a CMS-50D+ for under $150 last I knew at semedical.com. Just if you decide to do so be sure it is the 50D PLUS (50D+) as the 50D is NOT a recording oximeter. The software comes w/the 50D+

Re: S9 SpO2 module - can anyone ask their rep what one ?
I might do that! I know the referral to a specialist is going to take 3 months, after waiting for 1 month for the primary care appointment, etc. So $35 is nothing to get this thing going ...Slinky wrote:You might be able to push your family doctor to at least script an overnight oximetry. Thanks! I appreciate the loan offer, but I should probably just buy one! I was waiting for other costs to settle down first - I just bought my ResMed Adapt SV out of pocket. I wanted to make sure I didn't need other things for that.I'd offer to loan you my SPO 7500 but I've loaned it out to someone and had to borrow a Contect CMS-50D+ from another friend for myself right now. I bought a $55 non-recoding oximeter in December when I was first diagnosed and I saw that my levels were down to around 81%, 85% during my sleep study. I wish I had just purchased a recording one right away! I asked my DME and he said they were expensive, so I didn't look beyond the $800+ prices that I saw.
I'll go through the list on the different models, I have seen a few threads, and grab one. What the hell, I needed to get healthy, I need for my son to get healthy - sometimes you just do what needs to be done, rather than waiting months for the system to chug through its processes!
I would have purchased one a few weeks ago, but my wife has been against it. Somehow she thinks he should just be a "normal" kid and learn to live with it, and not think he has all these diseases and needs all this special equipment! I don't get that attitude **at all** - that is really a "losers" attitude in my mind! You have a problem, you face it head on, look at your options, learn, and act! So she derailed me for a couple of weeks on this ....
Thnaks again!
Best,
Michael

Re: S9 SpO2 module - can anyone ask their rep what one ?
Here are a set of pics showing the connectors that are standard on the Nonin 3012 xPod & on the 3212 iPod (the xPod is an SpO2 unit and requires a finger probe to be plugged into it - see pics showing this. The iPod is a complete probe + SpO2 unit combined - both the 3012 & 3212 units deliver the same high data rate as a TTL serial signal).
http://www.internetage.ws/cpapdata/reslink-xpod-ipod-1
All I need is to get a cable that connects the xPod or iPod to the 3-pin Reslink (& assuming the S9 SpO2 adapter has the same 3-pin socket).
I can provide several of the xPods at under $50 incl post (but you need to obtain the finger probe Nelcor 8000A) & I can also supply several of the iPods at under $110 incl post (these are the combined SpO2/probe). These are shown in the pics. I have 10 of each. The main advantage of using these with a Reslink (if you have one) or if they can be connected to an S9, is that your data in ResScan shows all info including SpO2.
I'll dummy up a test cable to try an iPod out on my Reslink. It will be great if at last I have the right models.

Re: S9 SpO2 module - can anyone ask their rep what one ?
I just located my earlier experiment on interfacing to a Reslink. This is when I tried using a Nonin 3011 which it turns out isn't the right model required. The correct model being the Nonin 3012. The pics of the bits are here ...
http://www.internetage.ws/cpapdata/resl ... d-ipod2-1/
So, I had purchased a Nonin OEM kit and made the assumption it would require the type #1 data model (3011) as the right SpO2 unit but could not get it to work with Reslink. It is frustrating to now see that I could have ordered the #2 (3012 / 3212) but we just had no info to go on & at that time were unable to get any on which unit Resmed had used. What is doubly frustrating is that I already had 3012 & 3212 units. But on the good side the Nonin OEM kit allowed me to work out what the signal lines were. See Nonin OEM application form here ...
http://www.nonin.com/documents/OEM%20De ... mation.pdf
The Nonin OEM kit normally works by feeding data through the Nonin supplied serial interface card (the bit with the battery connector) to a PC and the unit supplies a constant data stream of data but at the wrong rate for Reslink. The Nonin 3011 puts out a much reduced data rate compared to the 3012 unit. IIRC the 3011 is a lowly 3 bytes/sec whereas the 3012 = 375 bytes per sec.
Will have a go later at using a 3012 instead of the 3011 & see if at last I can read the data into the Reslink but I need to make up some cables & re-validate all the wiring connections. That may not be until a week or two away.
Note that the nearest plug that I could find to the 3-pin Resmed one is as shown in the 1st pic. But even it is to large a diameter plus the Reslink socket is not a complete circle plus it has 2 flutes in the socket. There may be a std plu that fits this but all my searching failed to find one.
