Red Marks/Welts on Forehead

Post by janeysmom » Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:30 pm

I am using the Mirage Softgel Mask with the head rest. I've used it for the last couple of weeks and really like it because it is comfortable and I get the best numbers. AHI is below 0.5.

Anyway in the last few days, I noticed I have two noticeable red marks/welts on my forehead from where the head rest lies. Last night, I put moleskin on the headrest and then on the gel of the mask, but did not notice much difference this morning. I also have the headrest on the loosest setting.

Any suggestions on what to do to get rid of these? Should I loosen the rest of my mask too? Or is there something I can put on the red marks?

Thanks!
Katie

Thank you very much for the links. I think I will go get them. Any tips on what to do until I get them? It is not a very good look .

Thanks, Katie

A hat...

I don't think there is much you CAN do. I wake up with strap marks, which are usally gone by the time I shower and shave. Dunno if it's the warm water or just a matter of time. You might see if a warm washcloth helps...

Go to a fabric store or a craft store and pick up some flannel or fleece fabric remnants. It's likely you can do this for under a dollar. Cut a rectangle a little larger than the forehead bridge. Slide them under the bridge just before you tighten your straps. That should help until you can get or make your own more stable padding.

Note that if you use new fabric (instead of cutting up your sleep wear or underwear) wash it well twice before using. I and my mother worked in the garment/ fabric insudtry for many years and you really don't want to know what can be on that fabric beside nasty dye and cleaning chemicals.
