S8 APAP --how to set max pressure?

Post by rickhan » Sun Mar 28, 2010 1:05 pm

Menu has a minimum pressure setting, which I set to 8.
How do I set the max pressure to 12?
The max pressure setting must be called some other term, as I don't see anything obvious.

If you are using a ResMed S8 Escape or S8 Escape II, you have a plain CPAP machine. It can be set for only one pressure.

If you have a ResMed S8 Escape II Auto, that can be set for minimum and maximum pressures.

Does your ResMed S8 Escape have the word "Auto" written on the top? If it doesn't have "Auto" written on the machine itself, it is a plain CPAP machine that has only one setting for the therapy pressure.

By the way, if you got your machine recently from a DME (local home health care supplies store) I'd take the Escape (even if it's an Escape II Auto) back to them to swap for an Elite II (CPAP) or an Autoset II (autopap.) The Elite and Autoset models can give you data about your treatment every night... AHI and leak data. The Escape model (even the Escape Auto) cannot give any data other than "hours of use."

My list of machines that record "full data" (AHI and leak info) and those that don't -- updated through March 2010:

It's an auto. And I don't see a max pressure menu item, just a minimum pressure. I see where you can set it as to CPAP or APAP, and it's set at APAP.
I bought it at cpapauction, new with 4i humidifier. Even has tubing and card.
Just ordered the card reader.
I have a 10 year old Respironics cpap machine that is starting to get erratic. My insurance has extremely high deductibles, so I just bought a new machine out of pocket. My GP wrote the prescription, following the pressures from my original sleep study.
As I lose weight, I plan to monitor my sleep patterns.
Of course if something unusual happens, I'll take my data card in to a sleep Dr....

The menu seems to show the ability to show more data than hours of use...avg and daily AHI.
And I plan to get the software to read the data from the card and analyse it.
No idea if the data is more detailed than what is offered on the LCD or not.

Anyone??
How do I set the max pressure on this machine?????
Just minimum pressure shows up on the menu. I can set that fine to 8.
I need to set max pressure to 12.
It is set to APAP, not CPAP.

You're right about the Escape Auto being able to record AHI and pressure data, rickhan. I was wrong when I said the Escape Auto could not record or show any info other than hours of use. Thanks for the clarification.

To go into the clinical setup menu, where mode of operation and pressures can be set, are you pressing the righthand arrow button and the down-arrow button together, and holding those two buttons down for several seconds until you see "Welcome Clinical" in the display window?

Although it was not the S8 Escape II Auto being discussed in the links below, those two posts should help you find the Max pressure setting for your machine:

I was in the clinical menu--I can access and set the minimum pressure to 8, but there is no max pressure on the menu. My CPAP pressure is supposed to be 10.

I used the machine for the first time--much. much better than my ancient Remstar Plus 1.X machine.
My daily AHI was 10.9 . Not sure if I need that number lower.
I'm going to up the minimum pressure to 9

Really appreciate the help.

For my S8 autoelite II:

> clinical menu
> settings
> apap
> min pressure
> max pressure

Even in the manual for this machine, the clinical menu only shows a Minimum Pressure menu item, no max pressure. Maybe if there is a provider version of the manual, it would explain how max pressure is managed.

My guess at this point is, that you set only minimum pressure, and it automatically figures the max according to some formula.

Now to figure out what the optimum daily AHI range should be..
