To our Neighbors in Canada

Post by Sleepless on LI » Mon Oct 10, 2005 10:41 am

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

To all our neighbors in Canada who celebrate your Thanksgiving today, enjoy, eat at least one slice of pumpkin pie and remember that turkey has tryptophans in it that help you sleep .

Thanks Giving

Well, thank you Lori.
Had ours yesterday with friends, had a piece of pumpkin pie PLUS a piece of apple pie, not called Ms P for nothing. You have to eat quickly to get through it all before your tum realizes you have to stop! Didn't sleep any better though.

Yes hope Thanksgiving is full of contentment for you this year. BTW I was listening to a Canadian station call in program this weekend where people were selling things over the radio (kind of an electric garage sale!). The hostess asked each person what they were eating for Thanksgiving dinner and got some eclectic answers such as stuffed cabbage and lasagne! We're pretty traditional in the states...turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes (burp....lots of carbs!) cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.
Some have Indian pudding. And we'd sometimes have a pot of apple cider or apple juice simmering with whole cloves, cinammon sticks and whole nutmeg to make the house fragrant and warm our tummies.

Do you tend to eat the same things we do or are there other things that are traditional for you?

Mmmmm ... Indian pudding! I haven't had that in decades (literally)!

Can anyone point me to a good recipe? I don't think my kids have ever had it.

Bill,

I just did a search on "Indian pudding" and there were lots of sites listed.
Take your pick.

Happy Thanksgiving to our friends up North.

Best Wishes,

Den

Even before you posted this I was busy searching ... and printing!

Later this week or maybe on the weekend I'm going to cook some (also known as Hasty Pudding).

Where's the tongue-licking, drooling emoticon when you need it?

Bill,

Let me know which sounds like a good recipe. I might see if I can get the Wulfwoman to make some.

Thanks,

DW

Some interesting historical recipes here http://www-personal.umich.edu/~amidkiff ... cipes.html

But I'll probably use one of the modern recipes, such as http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/0 ... udding.php

Thanks Bill.

I can't believe how many variations there are.
Will check those out.

Have a good one,

Den

Den,

"Wulfwoman"? Does she know you call her that? I got a good laugh out of that one, thanks!

BTW, why two names, DW and Wulfman???

Hope you had a nice holiday!

By the way, now that I see that smiling face, made me realize you stayed entirely out of the Avatar threads and I didn't have you in the online yearbook. Do you mind if I used your photo in the next update? Need your consent before I do, please.
