Options for not using humitifier

Post by tripletdad28 » Sat Mar 13, 2010 2:02 pm

I am going to be traveling outside of the US and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for not using a humidifier. My CPAP is about a 1/3 smaller without the humidifier and would be easier to carry if I didn't have it. I will only be gone a week so this is not a permanent thing. I tried last night without it and ended up putting it back on at 3am. Is there something I can take/ do, or is this something that you have to get use to, or just not a good idea?

Using Remstar Pro Series M
Pressure is 11
Area traveling to is 85 F w/ 70% humidity

My experience is that I don't need it when traveling. In fact, I rarely take it even to cold areas.

When my sinuses bother me, I use a nasal saline spray to moisten my sinuses. When I awaken at night I spritz my nose and it makes it better.

But to a warm climate with good humidity... I doubt you will need it. I sure would not.

I use Ayr saline gel in my nose and it keeps things moist all night. I can keep my humidifier low, because too high and I feel like I can't breathe..

Make sure your filter is good before you go - if heavy pollen may be a factor, include one of the white hypoallergenic filters in your setup to be sure. If you'll be staying in an air-conditioned room, outside humidity will have less bearing on your sleeping space, so that may impact your decision.

I never take my humidifier when traveling. With 75% humidity I wouldn't think you would need it. Bring some Ayr gel just in case to use in your nares if you should need it.

I don't use the humidifier in the summer at all. We have central air, but Missouri typically has high humidity.

I generally take the humidifier off to save room in the summer.

I have been using on CPAP for almost as long as harry33, and like him, I don't use or need a humidifier. I am pretty sure that heated humidifiers were not even available when we started CPAP.-

Where possible when traveling I don't take my humidifier although more recently with the S9 I have because I'm more comfortable with it on the machine.

Usually I find if I'm staying for a few nights or two weeks that I pack without the humidifer because what I do is with the old style S8 bags which are nice and small I can fit my CPAP inside my rolling luggage bag, as well as several masks and the tubing. This works really well for me as it means I don't have an additional bag to carry. Usually I'm pretty ladened down with a rucksack carrying a heavy laptop so having that, the rolling luggage and a CPAP bag (although it will sometimes sit on top of the rolling bag) for me is just too much to drag around with me.

I would figure out a way to take the humidifier just because it is better to be safe than sorry.
