figured out AHI mystery

Post by nobody » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:06 am

I think I finally figured out the rise in AHI mystery. Regularly replacing the cushion on the quattro does help, but I still have nights where my AHI goes up significantly even though the leak level seems about the same as on those nights when it's really low. I've started to notice a pattern ... when during the day I'm working on cleaning out long-untouched areas (meaning, cleaning around tons of dust) such as the garage or old storage areas or under the bed etc and get a lot of dust up my nose during the day my AHI will be a lot higher during the night. This is the case even though I take a shower and use the neilmed sinus rinse to get the dust out of my nose. The sinus rinser does help, but only to a certain extent. I think once the dust causes a reaction in my nose, things will be swelled up in there for a while even if I rinse out the dust. I think from now on I'm going to wear a dust filtering respirator mask when I work on this stuff.

Makes sense. I think you're right.

Hi Nobody,
My experience is similar to yours. On the days that I would vacuum, dust or use household cleaners my sinuses rebelled. I'll use the netti pot to help clear the congestion. Before CPAP days I really didn't pay too much attention to how my sinuses reacted to those activities. I have become more aware. It feels good when we can figure out how to make our therapy work better for us.
