Looking for a new mask...

Post by Cygnusia » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:22 pm

Very soon I'll be due for a new mask. I'm pretty tired of the Quattro... I never really was able to get the best fit of it and I'm tired of having to feel like I have a vice grip on my face.

Anyway... any suggestions for a full face? I'm kinda leaning towards the Flexifit HC432, but does anyone have any suggestions? Full face only, of course... I couldn't deal with the pillows or nasal masks... chinstraps frankly suck and taping my mouth was an ordeal in itself...

On a side note, lil Baby Alex is doing fine and still keeping his daddy up at night. Even with that, my sleep doc said I "graduated" and I don't have to go back to see them for another year!

Hey, stranger! Glad to see you back here again (and glad to hear things are going well with the little guy).

I don't have any suggestions for you at the moment. I tried on a few different FFMs recently, but I wasn't thrilled with any of them. I ordered the Zzz-Mask (Probasics' FF version) and am expecting it to arrive tomorrow, and I'll be happy to let you know what I think of it. It's all silicone, with no hard plastic, so I'm really excited to try it. The only negative thing I've read about it has to do with the headgear being too cheesy to hold up for long, so I'm planning on using the headgear from another mask with it.

I'm sure others will have suggestions for you. In the meantime, you might want to check SleepingUgly's current thread about favorite masks.

*And think about posting a current pic of Alex sometime. I'd love to see how big he is now.

How totally adorable! Well worth being kept up at night for...well at least for a little while.

Good luck with your mask search.

Looks like he's not getting enough to eat......

....doesn't look like he'll be able to use a chinstrap.

Of course, I don't know much about babies, either.

Sorry for the delayed response, but you faked me out with the new avatar! (I couldn't find the thread easily, because I was looking for your beautiful kitty! ) Love the li'l devil in the new pic, though. Very cute.

I'm going to give the new Zzz-Mask a whirl tonight and will let you know what I think.

I just got the info in the mail on SleepWeaver. They are cloth, you can wear glasses,
thin strap straight up from your nose to the top of you head, and then fastens in the front.

Here's their site http://www.SLEEPWEAVER.COM

INFO@CIRCADIANCE.COM

ahhhh!!!! to be able to read in bed again!!! I wear glasses.

Here's all I can report so far:

I spent some time with the mask yesterday, laying down on the bed with the machine on, adjusting the straps on the (substituted) headgear. I thought I had it adjusted fairly well. But my pressure settings can change very quickly with my new machine, so my mask testing abilities are somewhat limited.

I put the Zzz on at bedtime last night, but I only lasted about an hour with it. It wasn't uncomfortable at all (that's the good news), but it was leaking around my mouth and chin every time my jaw dropped as I was falling asleep. (Adjusting headgear when you're trying to go to sleep is never the best idea, which is why I tried to do that earlier.) I'll keep working on it and let you know how I fare. I sure do like the mask for its comfort factor, so I hope I can get it to work for me.

I think the reason the Hybrid works for me is the chinflap, which helps me keep my mouth closed. I may need a chinstrap with the Zzz to achieve the same result, which isn't what I was hoping for. But we'll see.

I think that's one of the main reasons I'm so interested in the HC432... the fact that the mask cradles the chin instead of sitting on top of it like the Quattro does. It's supposedly also pretty tolerant to facial hair (something else that I've pretty much set by the wayside these days... no time for a trim!)

I use the Ultra Mirage FFM. Of course I had no idea 'til recently that you can use masks that may not actually come with the machine....i.e. I have a Resmed machine, so I thought I could only use a Resmed mask. However, after some research, it appears that I don't. I do like the Ultra Mirage, except for not being able to read in bed at night. That's something I gave up with having sleep apnea, though. After a lot of looking around, I finally found a new one with a price I was willing to accept since I was having to pay out of pocket. I am so happy to finally have a new mask!

I tested the Mirage when I finally settled for the Quattro... I didn't care for it at all. It felt way too stiff on my face. I also tested out a hybrid, and it felt way too odd for my tastes. I just can't deal with something sitting on my upper lip.

Hi Cygnusia,
A very beautiful baby indeed!

I have the HC 431. I like it. I also have the Quattro but I get a very dry mouth in the morning even with humidity turned up. I like the chin flap on the 431. It must be preventing me from too much mouth breathing because my mouth is not as dry when I use it. The downside is it tends to leave grooves on my cheeks, more so than the Quattro. I wonder if this would be less of a problem with the HC432. I have searched previous posts on the 432 and some people have more problems with leaks and prefer the 431 .

Let me know if you do decide on the 432.

Really? Okay, I suppose that I'll see if I can try on both.
