I have had the Forma FFM for a week and I like it! It's the first mask I have felt like I could wear and get used to! The problem is that it leaks very badly. I have tried washing everything (face and mask). I tried cutting a piece of Tshirt to put underneath (that helped a little but not enough), I have tightened and worked with the straps, I pull it out and try to get it to suction to my face. It will but when I move or go to sleep and relax it starts leaking. I really like this mask and want it to work. Any suggestions? Also, if this mask just won't work is there another mask that is similar that I could try?
Here are my leak rates for the last 4 days:
.68
.62
.74
.86
Thanks
Karen

Your leak rate is crazy high, ka-ann, so you're not getting anywhere near effective therapy. The machine can't compensate for any leak over .4 l/s.ka-ann wrote:I have had the Forma FFM for a week and I like it! It's the first mask I have felt like I could wear and get used to! I've found that the key to adjusting a mask properly is to do so lying down with your machine running at your full pressure (or the highest pressure in the range, if you're using an APAP), when you've consciously and completely relaxed all of your facial muscles. Let your jaw drop as it does during deep sleep. Move around and test the mask fit in any/all positions you might be sleeping in. If you hear or feel a leak, slightly tighten the mask strap closest to it.
It takes time to properly adjust a mask, so keep trying. Sometimes, no matter what we do, the mask is just not right for us; it doesn't work with the shape of our face or it's not the right size. Hang in there and keep adjusting until you're satisfied you've done all you can to make it work; if it still doesn't, then it's time to try another.
Good luck.

You may need to try a different cushion size... if I recall correctly, the Forma frame can support different cushion sizes (at least the Medium and Large share the same frame).

What size are you wearing? Have you tried a size smaller?

Re: Forma FFM leaks! Any Ideas!
I am wearing a small in the Forma. I think it doesn't come in a XS. I tried tightening it after lying down with the pressure on. If did not feel as good (a little tight) but my leak rate was .38 this morning. I also wore the mask for 7 hours!! My AHI was 6.8 but if I can get the mask leaks adjusted maybe that will go down.

Re: Forma FFM leaks! Any Ideas!
I wonder if it is like the F & P 431, (an earlier version of the Forma). With the 431, the cushion can slip out of the frame easily if it isn't in properly all the way around and cause leaking under the pressure. With the 431, the trick to keeping it from leaking is to be sure the cushion is in the little slot of the frame fully all the way around.
I don't know if both masks are the same in that respect or not but thought I would suggest it just in case they are.

Re: Forma FFM leaks! Any Ideas!
I use the 431 with the foam piece that comes from a different one.
Looking at the site, I couldn't find much difference in the masks except for the forehead piece and foam.
If you can't get the leak under control, you could try a different F&P.
