Having problems with Resperonics Auto A-flex
Having problems with Resperonics Auto A-flex
Hello! I am a new member and a new CPAP-user. I recently got this Resperonics Auto A-flex unit that I'm having an odd problem with. The reason I say odd is that, so far, it is mystifying both the sleep-lab that prescribed it and also Apria, the supplier. After a few minutes the machine starts giving me brief (about 2 sec's) pressure-surges. They continue and come apparently randomly, not coinciding with any particular part of my breathing-cycle. They also stop and start unpredictably. They significantly disturb my sleep. The sleep-lab put in a request to Apria for a replacement, and gave me a loaner (identical unit) for the interim. The loaner did exactly the same thing. When I got the replacement from Apria yesterday, I tried it out right there in their offices, and it too did the same thing, to the dismay of the concerned clinician. I'm back to sleep-lab tomorrow. The Apria person mentioned that this series is very new technology, and maybe this behavior hasn't been happening to others, but I wanted to inquire here to see if anyone else has experienced or heard of this. Thanks, SeanB

From that link:
Advanced Event Detection
The PR Auto CPAP is designed to identify symptoms beyond classic OSA parameters such AHI, flow limitation, Hypopnea, Obstructive and Central Apnea. With the PRI Series, detection is expand to include data on Snoring, Periodic Breathing and Respiratory Effort-Related Arousals (RERAs).
RERAs differ from a Hypopnea event in that a RERA shows increasing respiratory effort with each breath, culminating in a shift in brain wave activity and not necessarily a result of obstruction. Periodic breathing conditions such as Cheyne-Stokes respiration and central apneas are distinguishable from obstructed apnea or snoring events.
Those air "puffs" have been discussed frequently on the forum.
Aren't you glad to know that your "medical team" has no idea how the machines they're selling work?

I use Apria too, and have had the same problem, the machine keeps turning off, even if it's
set on Auto off!
I did have get a new mask so will see what happens! I ended up calling cooporate, and even
e-mailed them a letter as I was getting the worst care from these people when I live, and now
I feel like a Queen, and they now call me daily to see if I need anything at all.
Thanks for what you said, it helped me, they never tell me crap!

Looking back, know I know what my parent's had, and were never treted!!
