Philips Respironics Wins Award

Like I am going to let a sleep doctor change my pressure settings wirelessly. Forget that crap. I give Philips a boobie prize for not releasing patient software with the product.

Bizarre. And you see where this is published: The Wall Street Journal. And I am with you. Unless there is a real need, I do not need 'big brother' (taken here to mean 'doctors or anyone else') monitoring every breath I take. Next thing you know, they will tax every breath I take.

I think I'll pickup a couple more S8's, just so I'll have patient
controlled therapy available, for the rest of my life.

Good thing that you have to have a modem or this new toy would have gone out the window. What are they talking about"Stricter reporting practices?

Hey guys don't miss the opportunity to buy shares from Phillips-Respironics, it closed at $30.93 and going up did you noticed?

All those companies are the same, screwing up customers, employees and whoever gets in their way. The only and supreme goal is to make money to give back to the CEO and to the share holders who are all the time asking more! more! more! and those running for the last opportunity to make easy money with all those dirty tricks (but legal) practiced in the stock market by the ones who control the money. The ironic thing is that the same that are crying out more more more are the same ones that are paying more and more for all the products they need to buy for the life of everyday. Oh the love of money that's why several have been fooled by promises of marvelous returns on investment by those guys who are today in prison.

That's what has become our economic system. The guy who said the first (I don't remember his name), the companies first goal was to produce an extreme return to the share holders said in the middle of the financial crisis he was repentant of his idea because that idea pushed the financial institutions into all the insane kind of transactions who brought to the financial collapse. Maybe you will not agree but that's the reality of our days, MONEY GOES FIRST.

That's why I said to buy some shares and join in the gold rush.

From the article:

The M2M solution integrates one of Cinterion's award-winning Evolution Platform modules and, for the first time, marries mobility and reliable two-way wireless communications with significant advancements in sleep apnea therapy to help millions of patients and their healthcare providers who must meet rigorous new reporting standards

Those "rigorous new reporting standards" are from the insurance companies so they can find more reasons to deny coverage.

If it were just for the home user, the wireless would be a nice feature to have, save you the trouble of using a sd card etc.

rosacer ,

You are correct, but failed to mention that many people are investors these days through their retirement plans. It's sad that retirement plans may be helping to force jobs away from USA. Depending on your retirement plan, it can be really hard "Not" investing in companies outside the USA. Personally, I believe every investment in foreign countries is the same as betting against USA, because those investors are betting the foreigners will do better, and if they use our retirement funds to do it only adds insult to injury.. TSP the Thrift Savings Plan for all federal employees doesn't even have to make sure they are not investing in countries that may wish to harm USA, they can invest in countries such as Iran,as they are not obligated by law to check. Some democrats tried to get a law passed to force the TSP to confirm the investments were not going to to those types of countries but in the end they could not get enough votes. TSP officials declared the funds would lose too much money if they had to investigate every investment they made. Privatizing social security will make it even worse

Wirelessly?

Ok, if this device allows for connection to the internet then there is a huge problem.

You could imagine every whack job hacker writing a virus to mess with your machine?
You pissed off the neighbor and to get back at you he remotely sets the pressure to ramp up to 100 while you sleep?
Or possibly worse?

I am sorry but there is such a thing of being too connected.

Interesting find Rooster.

Eventually, the same apneia patients who join this forum to learn how to re-program their machines might be asking how to disable the M2M nanny modules, eh?

As far as buying Phillips stock? I liked my original CFLEX machine so much that I bought some Respironics stock. Just as I suspected, it did quite well. Then, when Phillips bought out Respironics, I sold at a bit of a profit, and never looked back, no longer interested. It's now part of a huge company, and I might caution that large positive or negative swings in one arm of the company might be countered or diluted with the fortunes of the other tentacles. (However, this is not (not) stock advice. Do your own dd, make your own decisions.)

Great this is what they gave me! I have no software, have no idea what's going on, other than I don't feel to swift!
What do I do ask for a different machine?

so nursedeborah - which machine do you have? The picture in your profile shows a Remstar Legacy model Auto with C-Flex but you say in "additional comments" that you have a Remstar Plus with C-Flex.

When I replied to you, in another thread, I clicked on the picture of the machine you have in your profile. It's the Remstar Legacy model - no longer made. I did not look at the "additional comments" or did you add that for this thread? If you do not have a Remstar Legacy Auto, I gave you the wrong information in that other thread - sorry.

In this thread it sounds like you have a PR System One Plus machine. The Remstar Legacy Auto and the PR System One Plus are both made by Respironics, or rather by the "new" company Philips Respironics - hence the "PR". The older machine has software and a card reader but the new one does not. They keep promising that there will be patient software. so far none has appeared.

These machine manufacturers keep using the same names, etc, every time they come out with a new model. Very confusing!!

Not only that, but your doctor will be able to tell when YOU change YOUR settings and use a code to block YOU from changing Your own therapy! Ok, maybe I read too much Stephen King.
