S8 Elite II or S9 Elite?

Post by gradh » Wed Mar 03, 2010 1:00 pm

While I"m waiting for my doctor to call me back about writing an equipment specific prescription for my CPAP (so that I can return my Escape), I noticed that there is now an S9 Elite available. Is this an upgraded model of the S8 Elite II? When I called Apria customer service about the S8 Elite II, the first person I spoke with said that all she could find when looking for the S8 was the S9...I would think that this would mean that it'd be available to me. Which would you get? S8 Elite II or S9 Elite? Thanks...you guys have great information!!

Boy! Not an easy question to answer. The S8s and S8 IIs are tried and true, sturdy, durable, easy to assemble and disassemble CPAPs when changing motels every night ... I love my S8s.

I'm not at all impressed w/the addition of a second cord and power brick w/the S9s ... but they provide additonal data and additional event detection ...

I've ordered an S9 Autoset for myself. But that's me. I'm used to the external powerbrick with the M-Series Pro, so no big deal for me.

Either the S9 Elite or S8 Elite II will be better than the Escape... so if they only have the S9, take it. The S9 has the feature of the climate control tube (ask about it--it is not included by default)... this is intended to prevent rainout. I doubt the therapy would be any different with the Elites--since they are not auto-cpap machines... the S9 AutoSet has an enhanced auto algorithm.

The S9s are most likely using the new EasyBreathe technology they developed for the S8 IIs and it REALLY does make for smooth, easy breathing!!

I'd go with the s9. The noise that is heard by the cpap user (conductive noise) is 80% less than the s8 because of the new easy breathe waveform. I have tried it and there is a noticeable difference.

Hi I just purchased a S9. It is my first machine. I will set it up tomorrow. During Nurse demonstration I was impressed how quiet is. I heard older models are noiser. I would like to hear from anyone how effective those machines are. Did it really help to improve sleeping? Regards Angelos-Toronto

Just a note here - it is entirely possible that posts from non-members could be attempts by ResMed corporate to puff up their 'street cred' on a very popular forum. For those of you who are new, it pays to watch the posts of those who are logged in and have been around a while rather than to be swept up by multiple undocumented non-member posts. Sorry if this offends. If you're a real person who isn't affiliated with Resmed and you really just bought the machine, then by all means join. We've got room for you. If you're a Resmed 'plant', this type of posting is discouraged. Others on the forum have a right to know that it's a possibility.

My Apria doesn't even have S9 yet - they said rep was going to come out and introduce next week.

Hi all.
This is a follow up to my previous post. I just completed 5 days of using the S9. As I said it is my first machine so I cannot compare it with older models. I can tell you for sure that is a quiet machine. I can barely hear it and personally I had no problem to sleep. As far as results I have to admit that so far surpassed my expectations. For now I would say that I am very optimistic that I found the solution I was looking for. I do not want to comment further as I do understand that several people are cautious the first few weeks to admit that machine helps. I do not want to create false expectations. I am curious to hear from people they purchased the S9 machine about the price. Here in Toronto cost about 1000 Canadian dollars. However this is in addition of a subsidy from the government of 700 dollars. Otherwise the price would have been around 1700 dollars. I consider the price very expensive. You can buy a whole computer with much more material half of the price.

In BC, there is no such subsidy, the BC provincial govt do not subsidize any CPAP.
Question: if you buy on line for around $1,100, does your Ontario prov govt still give you the $700 subsidy?

Hopefully you don't count me as a ResMed 'plant' Be careful though you'll have an S9 soon and you'll be brainwashed too and added to the borg collective!

Personally I purchased the S9 Auto. It will be slightly more expensive but it gives you the best of both worlds, the fixed pressure and the automatic adjustment. A lot of health care professionals prefer fixed pressure because if they titrate you at say 10cm then they expect the machine to give you 10cm. With the Auto machiens they go from a range, e.g. you can have it set to 6cm but ramp up to 20cm if suddenly it detects an apneoa occurring so it makes it more comfortable to sleep with. Generally health care providers and doctors are coming round to Auto machines but a lot still like the fixed pressure machines and try to sell those.

To be honest I do not know. The office that I purchased my machine asked me to sign a form. Based on this form I believe that they will get some money from the government.
So I am not sure if this form is a government paper that Seller has to fill up or anyone.
